How long is the glucose test?

I have my glucose test next week plus I go in for my regular check up also. I need to request time off of work for it, but I'm not sure how long I should request off. How long did your glucose test take to complete? How fast did you get the results back?

When I did mine, I requested the full day off because I didn't know how I would react to the test. But my dr had me do a 2 hr test. I was there for about 2 and a half hours, but it was at a lab, not the drs office.

It kinda just depends. When I went for my one hour glucose testing, I was there for around an hour and a half, which really isn't so bad considering you have the drink the whole bottle and then wait an hour. You could be there a little longer than that though.

Long as the first one goes fine it is just 1 hour. Should that test come back abnormal, the next one you take is about 4 hours. It happens a lot, the first test coming back out of normal range, mine did every time and when I took the "3 hour" one that actually turns into 4 hours, all came back fine.

I was given a drink to take while I was still at home/work. Only had to fast for the last hour. Over the course of 5 mins, drink all of it 1hr before my appointment.  The actual test at the office was just a finger prick and didn't take any extra time than a normal appointment.  Sounds like there are a few different versions of the test out there, so it would probably be best to ask your dr office.  I'm surprised some people have to wait the in the actual dr office!  How inconvenient!

I did the test first thing in the morning as you have to fast for it. I had booked 2hrs off work for it but ended up taking the whole day off as I got quite sick from the test and went home and slept for 3hrs after it!

First they give you glucose to drink and then you have to seat there and wait for about an hour... Then they draw your blood and it takes about 5 min (or more depending on how experienced is your nurse). I would also incorporate wait time if you need to wait in the lab prior to taking glucose. Then if you see your doctor add in the time it usually takes plus some... As ion my clinic it does vary how long I have to wait for my doc to see me. Hope that helps.

Haven't had mine yet this pregnancy, so not sure if it has changed since 11 years ago. When I did it the first time, it was 1 hour. If you kept it down, great. If you didn't, you have to go back to do it for 3 hours.
