How to Tell Your Boss

Hey everyone, I'm starting a new job August 17th. When interviewed, I didn't know I was pregnant, but I recently got hired and have no clue how to tell my boss. And since I've already been to the doctor, I don't want to be "withholding information". I don't know if they will even want to keep me if they knew. Should I tell them before my start date? Wait until I've worked a few weeks? Thoughts? I have no clue what I'm doing!

Also, any extra advice on how to tell friends and church family? I'm so private about my life so this is even hard for me.

Thank you, lovely moms!
I appreciate your help!

Actually you can not get fired for keeping your pregnancy a secret. So the above comment is incorrect.  You do not have to tell your job your pregnant until you want to.  You should wait until you start showing. If you are lifting heavy objects than you can let them know. I am 37w1day pregnant.  I'm a manager at amazon I didn't let my company know I was pregnant until about 20 weeks which I started showing. Trust me it's not a good idea to tell them your pregnant until after 3 months or so.

I was in The same situation as you are and I didnt tell my boss until I completed my first trimester, when I told her i did make her very clear that I didnt know I was pregnant when The interview took place. You are absolutely in your right to complete your first trimester.

I would tell them right away. Ive known women who have gotten fired for keeping their pregnancy a secret. Its also for safety reasons I mean I dont know what job you will be starting but if it involves moving objects or some sort, it would be best to tell them. I mean just say the truth you didnt know until after you got hired. And for family and friends, whenever you feel its best. Some wait until they enter the second trimester, some announce it right away. Just whenever you feel most comfortable about it.

I would wait at least till your past your first trimester then tell them, u want to be professional and a knowledge that eventually you'll be out of work after your baby so you don't want to affect business and give them time to after range things such as coverage after you ate gone. Reason why I would wait is because your first trimester is too soon to confirm anything u wanna make sure everything goes well with your pregnancy ( knock on wood) also will most likely not get fired cause y hey could find another excuse to fjre u

Don't tell till you have to. I told my boss and I was there almost three months so they came up with a bogus excuse to fire me instead of telling me it's because I was pregnant. If you just found out you won't show for awhile so hold off as long as you can. Since I got fired I haven't gotten any jobs because I hate lying so I tell them in the interview now I will not be telling anyone till I absolutely have to preferably when I'm in active labor lol

Whenever you feel comfortable telling them.. You don't have to tell them right away. It would be best to tell them soon before you start your prenatal visits though. They can't replace you for being pregnant hun... If they fire you or replace you just for being pregnant you have a lawsuit on your hands... That's discrimination..

Should I wait until I've been there about a week do you think? Or just on my first day? I really am so excited for this job, I'd hate for them to replace me because of this.

I would wait until after your start date. They can't fire you for being pregnant... That's actually against the law.. I would be completely honest with them and tell them you didn't know you were pregnant until after the interview..
