If you are one of those people that fies good on other forms of BC and surgeries and things then try it. You can always get it taken out if you don't like it. Mine actually migrated and had to be surgically removed during my d&c it went out side my uterus and was laying in my abdomen. There are alot of law suits about it. Do your research before you make any decision

Not to sound like a Debbie downer... Because I know the IUD works for a lot of women. But here is my experience... I had the Paragard placed December 2011. It was not painful to have it placed because dr used lidocaine to numb down there :) after being placed i had light cramping but no spotting. I went in for my paps and lady check ups regularly. Everything seemed great. I found out February that we are expecting! It was very much a shock for hubby and I, AND the doctors that I got  pregnant with an IUD. The even crazier part was that with a pelvic exam the IUD  looked ideal and in the correct place. When verifying that I was pregnant they inserted the vaginal ultrasound and saw that the IUD had moved down into my cervix. Without an ultrasound tho no one would have ever known! Just remember no birth control is 100% effective! Not even having your tubes tied. (Sorry for the long post)

I had the merina for 2 years and it was horrible I had irregular periods and sometimes I would have 2 periods a month and the cramps were horrible also sex hurt like hell a lot of the time and I wanted it out for along time and it took me a year to find someone to take it out! After I got it out I got pregnant 15 days later and I am now 36 weeks pregnant our son. I'm now 19 with a 3 year old daughter and about to have our little boy and I am 100% positive I'm done having kids but here in Louisiana you have to be 21 or have at least 3 kids to get your tubes tied so this time around I'm getting the paraguard because it has no hormones like the merina did and lasts 10 years

I had my mirena for 3 years and decided to have it removed bc I had this feeling something was wrong. My doctor tried to talk me out of getting it removed when I told her I thought it was imbedding saying that in the 10 years she has worked with IUDs she has never seen that happen. Well sure enough it was imbedded, I only narrowly avoided surgery to have it removed but after 2 hours of torture and ultrasound help it finally came out. I also miscarried 6 months after removal, have had irregular cycles and took 18 more months to manage to get pregnant again. I was always regular before mirena and got pregnant right away. I didn't think I would have anymore babies bc of it. Think long and hard before putting a foreign object like that in your body, it was the easiest bc I've ever used but if I could go back I never would have gotten it.

I had the mirena for 5 months and it was awful. I gained weight after having it put in right after having my second. I always lose the weight within the first few months and the doctor that I asked to remove it had the nerve to tell me the mirena can't make me gain weight and that "as we get older our metabolisms start to slow down.." I was 19... Now I just felt pregnant the entire time but I had a friend have it much worse. She left it in for only 2 years but by the time she wanted it out to have another they went to pull it out and found it had grown through the uterine wall and she hemorrhaged when they took it out and she'll never be able to have kids again. It just doesn't seem worth it to me if you aren't certain yet whether you want any more kids, you don't want that decision taken away from you.

Paraguard hurt me the first day, but it wasn't excruciating as some people make it seem. I'll be getting one back in after baby and I'm excited as birth control doesn't work well for me!

I had the merina for almost 5 years. It didn't hurt going in (or out) in my opinion. I loved it! I didn't have period for the whole time I had it. The only down fall is that I gain quite a bit of weight after getting it! Aside from that it was the best lol

I had got the IUD after I had my daughter when I was 18. The mirena and IUD are totally different when it comes to the hormones that are in them. I used to be on the BC patch when I was 16 and gained 60lbs. My doctor told me to get the IUD then cause the merina and the patch are very similar when it comes to what's in it. I loved the IUD. My only complaint was that after they put it in it felt like I was in labor all over again for like two weeks, heavy heavy period, cramps that would knock out the NFL. BUT after my body was use to it I only had to deal with simi heavy periods every month. I had it in for like 2yrs and loved it even with all that. I only took it out to have another child. Which took like 4yrs after it was removed. BUT it could have easily been the father that made it so hard for us to conceive. (Different father from my first) psthe doctors say the more children u have the better your body will react to the IUD cause your uterus is stretched out more

I also had the mirena and I didn't like it .... My body reacted to it .... Lower pain my head aches were more often , felt like I would get beat up everyday. I got it out within months. But every body is different upside don't have to remember to take it everyday

I had the mirena for 6 months and it was horrible.  My body kept attacking the strings. So I had a yeast infection the intire time I had it,  even though my drs kept saying that it wasn't causing them. As soon as it was out, wudda you know I was yeast free. I am done with any bc. After I have my second  baby in March, my hubby is getting snipped lol.

I got the paragaurd put in 6 weeks after I had my lo and love it so far. It was a little painful going in but no side effects or down sides as of yet.  I love not having it think about BC.
