With my first child I only seen one doctor the whole pregnancy...and she is the one who delivered....this time around I'm due May 21 and it could be one of three people to deliver....two doctors and a midwife I kinda don't like the fact that I don't know who will deliver but I know they are all good at what they do. So I'm dealing with it
With both my kids the doctor who delivered was one that I hadn't met, but I didn't care. They usually take turns being on call and rotate weekends, you gotta remember that the doctor who is on call and up all night on weekdays still has to go to the office and see 20+ patients the next day. I work at my OB office, and thankfully know them all very well, but trust me, if they've had a long night on call they can rub anyone the wrong way lol
I was in labor 27 hours, and was probably handled by 5 doctors by the time the baby came. It makes sense, they work shifts, like anyone else, and can't be on call 24 hours a day.
Honestly the nurses do most of the work, before during and after. the doctor usually just comes in to "catch" the baby. lol. and you are right in saying that you won't care when its actually happening. i thought i was going to be so self conscious during labor having family in the room. but once i was actually in labor i didn't care about ANYTHING!
At the hospital I will be going to there is 5 doctors there as well and chances are my doctor won't deliver my baby, which is completely fine with me because I don't care for her too much, I really like this other doctor who is super funny and nice, she's awesome but was not accepting patients (my luck)!!! So I'm not sure who will deliver my baby, I have only met 3 of the 5 doctors, and I would prefer female, but one I met is a guy.. I'm sure I won't care the day of! Good luck mama I'm due may 26th
