I started feeling BH contractions in my second pregnancy at 16 weeks. I can't remember when they started in my first pregnancy--I think it was closer to 20 weeks or after.

It feels like your abdoment tightens up, just as if you were flexing a muscle to make it firm. BH contraction usually do not hurt, they're just a little uncomfortable and last about 10-30 seconds.

i started feeling them at 18 weeks with my 4th child. your tummy gets tight for a short amount of time and then gose away. there pretty random normally but if you have them alot let you OB know because eventhough there not labor contaction they can still dialate your cervix witch was my problem. 1cm at 20 weeks 5cm by 34 and a baby at 35wk and alot of bed rest inbetween. good luck

I'm 17 weeks on my 8th pregnancy and it's funny that you posted this becuase I felt my first BH this morning.  Like victoria said it's usually just a tightening of the abdomen, may feel similiar to menstrual cramps.  Mine tend to have a little lower back ache that accompanies, but it's mostly becuase I've been pregnant so many times.  They don't last long and will usually stop if you change activity.  Sometimes not drinking enough water can bring on BH as well.  Be sure to stay well hydrated.

I felt my first ones around 24 weeks, but it depends on which pregnancy you are on. You 'usually' feel them sooner if it's not your first baby. Mine felt like a tightening/hardening of the stomach and only last a short time. They are not regular and do not get stronger, unlike regular contraction where you will feel them in front and back and will get progressively stronger and more painful.
