Just for reference.

This is just a question for reference. I’ve never really understood it. Are you considered pregnant at conception (sperm meets eggs) or at implantation?

Well, it's about impossible to know exactly when either takes place accurately or conclusively.  So, you get a positive pregnancy test and they go back to when the first day of your last period was (usually about two weeks before you'd get a positive pregnancy test).
