Labor Story 10/14

All day on the 13th (my due date) I had been having mild pain. Which at the time I thought was pretty bad but I was proved otherwise lol.
I wasnt able to sleep that night very well and by 2 a.m I was having real contractions. I sort of shook them off because I was scared it was pre labor still. So I was laboring all night, no sleep. At around 1 p.m, the pains started to become closer and more intense. I hated it but it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I switched from walking to squatting to kneeling to laying over the back of the couch, but the most soothing thing was the warm bath.

Now at 1:30 p.m I called my friend and my doula. They rubbed my back and rocked me and held ice to me until I asked to go to the hospital at 3:30. I didnt feel like I needed to but I was tired of being at home. (In my birth plan I wanted to labor at home) the car ride was terrible because sitting down and having contractions is the absolute worst. By the time we pulled up to the hospital I had had 4 contractions and was crying mostly because I was scared (before that I never even made a sound during a contraction).

They checked me. I was 7 cm. By the time I was moved to the next room and my midwife had gotten there and gotten me all ready, it was pushing time.
I was screaming for an epidural because I was terrified it was going to hurt more than it did. Honestly, the pain was the worst of my life, but I expected way worse.
Once I was up and legs spread, she said I had a bulging sack and tried to break it with a hook, but I was terrified of that so as I was yelling no, it burst by itself right before she could do it.
Next she explained the "lull" where your body lets you rest a minute to push. And by then I was going into shock so I just sort of layed there until it came time. I pushed maybe 15 minutes and he was out.
There was a cord around his neck, but my midwife was already cutting it when his heart started to drop, and it quickly picked right back up.
Since he didnt get the extra blood he was pale and had to go to the nursery but everything was and is okay.
I had one tiny tear on the inside that required no stitches.

Congrats! That is sad that you didn't get to do delayed clamping (sounds like that was the intention) but thank goodness you had a midwife who kept her head and clipped the cord before the decels got too scary. What a beautiful birth story!
