Nasty cold while pregnant

I am nearly 22 weeks pregnant, and managed to get the cold from hell!!!  I already know that I can't medicate myself much, but I'm just wondering if this cold is bad for the baby?  I feel like all the coughing and sneezing isn't good for the little one, and I'm starting to worry.

I am 18 weeks and I have had brochitas a few weeks ago and now a terrible head cold.  My doc told me if I have to I can take regular sudefed (the kind you buy from the pharmacy) and to only take one.  Also, you can take regular robitussin.  I have only gave in the past two days because I can't breath at work and I am on the phone and talking constantly still makes me nervous though, so I mostly try to stick with natural remedies.  Hope you feel better!

I had 3 BAD colds while pregnant this last time, one with LOTS of coughing.  My OB reassured me that it wouldn't hurt the baby.  The worst part was not being able to take much to relieve my symptoms.  Once I was in the third trimester, I was able to take more over the counter meds, on the advice of a pharmacist.

Hope you feel better soon :-))

Thanks.  The coughing just seems so violent for the baby, but I guess they have a lot of padding in the uterus.

hi hon...nope. as long as your temperature is staying low you should be fine.....I pulled a muscle coughing from an upper respiratory infection a few weeks back and it was really uncomfortable...they did a u/s on the baby to make sure I wasn't affecting the placenta but it was firmly attached...the only time severe coughing and/or sneezing can adversely affect the baby is it your placenta was not firmly attached in the beginning, all the jerking and spasming can cause it to loosen but that is very very RARE, so don't worry about it unless you get severe abdominal pain..in which case call your doctor but you should be absolutely fine.

just keep an eye on your temp (it needs to stay below 101), saline drops, steam/netty pot, vicks vapor rub and cough drops...

good luck <3

oh yeah drink orange juice  :).
