Natural or epidural?

im a ftm and I'm not really sure what to do. I have a very low tolerance for pain and I hear the epidural  will make you back hurt later on and I already have back problems. I was also wondering if there is a different pain med I can take while in labor that the doctors offer cuz I'm terrified of the epidural, I hate needles.

I have 49 days to go n I can't decide. I'm so nervous and scared of labor. I had a false contraction last night and it really scared me.

My mom has had nine kids and she gave up on epi's saying it wasn't worth it after you've seen the personal results a few tines. And she sometimes would get a huge bruise from it that she said she couldn't even sleep on. I'm extremely sensitive to pain but personally I am going to try for "natural" since my stubbornness can make me bare pain. I heard the drip is better even though it has more apparent and common lesser side effects like itchiness.

The laughing gas is awesome! I didn't feel anything my first one and I'll be using it this time. I don't want no needle in my back :S

I really want my baby to be natural, no pain medicine, no intervention unless medically necessary & NO pitocin. I'm open to the epidural though, I don't like all the con's to it, especially the fact that it can make the labor longer. My midwife was telling me that if I cant get myself to relax & I'm just tensed & stressed the whole time it would be better to get the epidural, & if I went til I'm in active labor to get it, it will be much more effective because it may slow the contractions down for a little while but because I'm in active labor they should pick up a lot quicker. I'm still hoping I can go through it without the epidural but this is my first baby & I've never gone through this before so who knows. I'm hoping I can be strong enough to go through it without the epidural. I've heard of horror stories of woman who have gotten the epidural & I've heard of woman who got it & did great with the epidural so I really just think it depends on the individual. What do I know though, I've never been through this before.

Go with the flow . Best advice I can give. If you can tolerate the pain..cool, don't get any pain meds. If you want to be more relaxed  during labor, pain meds can help with that.  I got the epidural so i could enjoy giving birth and not just focus on the pain.  I had no back problems  at all and I gave birth 10 months ago. You can't really plan for something if you don't know what it's like. Keep an open mind and do what you feel is best when you're in the moment.

There is also the gas that you can have and pethadiene (however its spelt, lol) but the second one can cause your bubba to have breathing problems. U could see how you go without drugs and see if you can manage it first?  I also found water really helped with my drug free birth. At the end of the day though whatever you feel comfortable with, and as long as you end up with a happy and healthy baby and mumma. :) best of wishes.
