Hey ladies. So I need some ideas on how I can help my cervix dilate. I am 50% effaced but not dilated at all yet. Baby girl is being stubborn. I'm due Christmas eve but she hasn't even dropped yet! My sis let me borrow her big exercise ball tonight and I bounced on it for a while. Need other ideas tho please!! Do NOT want to take castor oil. Thanks in advance!

I had 4 kids and I induce my self I take the whole bottle of castor oil and right after orange juice and brush my teeth to take the taste of my mouth it just gave my diarreah not bad cause it clean you so you don't poo during labor after it I did nipple stimulation and walk around and when the contration start took ah warm bath with salt from my chest down.oh I also take ginger tea with black pepper with no sugar it has always work for me and most on my family.

Mjbrown94, do you have experience with castor oil drinking the whole bottle? My sister did the same thing and it made her so sick. Put her into labor tho. But that is why I'm so nervous about it because she said it was so miserable. The toy is a great idea. ;)

Even tho you don't want to try castor oil, it really works. Get a 2 FL Oz bottle and drink the whole bottle. If sex isn't an option, a friend of mine had pretty much the same problem and she got her a toy, lol, tmi I know, but it worked for her. Good luck

I took 1 tablespoon and within the hour I was throwing up. I felt awful after taking it. The only reason I tried it is because I used it with my daughter and it worked. I won't be trying it again this time lol. My son is just going to be stubborn I guess because I'm down to 5 days and nothing.

Aim_double_e, how far along were you when you took the castor oil and had your babe? And did you ingest the whole bottle over the 8 hr period? My sister took the whole bottle and got sicker than a dog, puking over and over and diarrhea, but it did put her into labor.

Jonesy2015, how much of the castor oil did you take and did it make you sick? I know I said I dont wanna take it but I may be reconsidering come Christmas day if she doesn't come by then. I'm so miserable now as it is, and it's so discouraging going to the doc and getting checked only to be told that I am not dilated at all.

I'm due the 26th and I'm not dilated or effaced. I'm not help at all with this. I have tried everything to help my son along and nothing has helped. I tried walking, cleaning, primrose oil, and castor oil. I habe 6 days left before my due date and mine is being stubborn also.

They can't really do a sweep if you aren't dilated. They have to be able to get in there.

I hear you when you say you don't want to take castor oil. I just thought I'd share my story and you can take it or leave it. With my son I was told I needed to have him that weekend or they'd induce me because he didn't do well with the noon-stress test. I bought castor oil from Walgreens. The bottle gives a dosing, I used the least amount. I ingested it over the course of my waking hours, not all at once. It was about 8 hours that I took it, mixing it with food. Even put a bit in a dairy queen blizzard. I did not have any uncomfortable side effects like diarrhea, cramping, or intense contractions. I woke up with some contractions about 3ish am, water broke a bit after 5, delivered at 941. That night I also had a quarter of a glass of red wine, in the warm bath. It won't he'll with dilation, but it does help with relaxation. Even if you can't have sex it is actually the nipple stimulation that activates the hormones responsible for contractions/dilation. You can do that yourself ;) every baby and body is different. I can understand wanting to be done before Christmas Eve, but she or your body just may not be ready right now. Good luck fellow mommy!

Unfortunately sex is not an option for me. My husband went to prison when I was 4 months pregnant and we are now getting divorced so I'm on my own. Does anyone know if the doc will do a membrane sweep if I'm not dilated at all yet? I see him again on Wednesday.

Sex is the best cause it softens the cervix. Exercise ball and walking. three out of my four births I asked for a membrane sweep at 38 wks, then had a lot of sex and it worked within 1-2 days.

Sex I hear works especially if he ejaculates inside of you the sperm have dilating properties

I'll try the chamomile tea. I haven't heard of that one. How much of it should I drink? I have also tried spicy food and pineapple and it hasn't done anything. I'm being induced on the 28th but I so badly just wanna experience going into labor naturally.

Chamomile tea can be helpful.  I used it to bring on labor and it did.  However every woman's body is different.  Just relax and allow your body to move naturally through the process.
