My 4 yr old comes home & says mommy, can i get a hampster. Im like we will see baby. Now, im laying here thinking "can u imagine a 4 year old little girl, a newborn baby boy, a one yr old puppy (who is still very much a puppy) & a hampster rolling around in a ball?" Lol, It would be pretty funny until one of them busted the ball...  Then itd be OMG!!

That reminds me of when I was about 4, we got a hamster- it bit me and I threw it and a few hours later it passed away. I was so sad :(
My family still doesn't let me live it down haha

I have a 5yr old, 3yr old, 3 week old (all girls), 2 dogs and a cat that's got 2 kittens! Mad house is all I can say lol! Especially at the weekends as my partner has 2 girls from a previous relationship that come to stay. We did have a hamster but unfortunately the cat rolled her exercise ball down the stairs which opened it and I don't think I need to say what happened next! Safe to say no more hamsters for us!

I used to beg my mom for a hamster and she doesn't like them so we settled on a guinea pig and it was my favorite pet!!  But she died about a year ago. I have a problem with pets when I find one that needs help I tend to keep them. Probably how I ended up with 9 dogs. But I love them :)

Be very careful of what you say to your child when dealing with pets, especially small caged ones because everything will be taken litterally. When I was around 4 I had a hamster who I loved dearly, the circus was in town at the time and my mum told me it was wrong to keep animals in cages, well the next day while my mum was still asleep I set my hamster free in the garden & when confronted by my mum all I could say was "but mummy, he needed to be free" needless to say I've never lived it down lol xXx

I am a hamster lover, when I was little I had 2 of them which turned into alot! But taking care of them is no big deal just make sure they have food, clean water and clean bedding. They sleep during the day and up at night so make sure you pay attention to them or they will try to escape :)

I do not know the first thing about raising a hampster... Or any animal for that matter. I have learned how to take care of the dog only cuz i fell in love with him. He was almost hit by a car & was running we put up signs & everything & nobody claimed him. Its been a lil over a year since weve had him & the vet said he thinks he was about 4 months at the time. So, now this? I think she will have to ask Daddy. I do not mind having it or anything (other than fish... I think theyre gross)

HAHA that could be bad!  My daughter is a bit older, but we do have the animals already... 2 dogs, cat, 2 rats, and some fish.  Hubby doesn't take care of them since they are mine (before we got together) so I am sure with a newborn and a couple cages and litter boxes this could be interesting.  I'd say try a rat before hamster if they don't bother you, or a guinea pig if you're considering it.  Good luck!
