OT: Breastfeeding and have a cold.

Hey ladies.  I had my daughter Brooke 5 1/2 months ago and I have finally caught my first cold in a year.  I am breastfeeding but wanted to know if there is any kind of medicine I can take that is safe while breastfeeding?  I have been very lucky that so far she has not been sick and I hope I don't pass this onto her.  Any info would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks :)

Agree with tiredbuthappy- don't stop nursing while sick!

Kellymom has a great list of medications you can take and the effects different ones may have on the baby. I think one of the biggest concerns is that several medications can temporarily diminish your supply.

if the link doesn't show, just google "kellymom and medications" and you'll be able to find a helpful and comprehensive list there. It provides both non-medication remedies and medications which are safe. Your local pharmacist can also be very helpful.

Continue nursing, as that is your best chance at preventing her from getting it. Even if she does catch it from you, chances are it will be much milder since she is getting your antibodies.

Hope you feel better soon!!!
