Ok WTH, need ya'lls opinions..

Ok, quick background - Gabe has been running a low fever the last 3 days or so.  No higher than around 100.  He's hasn't really been acting too much like he doesn't feel good either. Just a very minor, occasional cough - nothing that would otherwise cause concern.  Last night i notice he has this rash of small bumps all over his chest and belly.  This morning he woke up with it still there, but it's on his face as well.  He also has large splotches of red.  Some look weird like raised and bumpy, others are flat and red.  I'm putting the pic of his face on here, but will upload the other pics to my profile and post that I've done so when I get back from taking the kids to school.

Any ideas? His doc doesn't open til 8:30

Yeah we've been through strep a few times, seems I remember one of them getting a weird rash with strep once before too.  The small bumps aren't what concern me, it's those huge red splotches.  We'll just wait and see if they go away with the rest of the rash, if not I'll take him back.

I think i'm also going to need to get him in to see the dermatologist.  He was born with a mole and it grew and changed color, he ended up having it removed at 2 months old.  It wasn't cancerous but was "abnormal".  He's supposed to go for yearly checks but never had anything out of the ordinary so I didn't take him.  He did have another mole show up on his back and for awhile it stayed the same.  I noticed today that it is raised.  I'm hoping it's just because one of those bumps popped up on the mole.  SO, if it doesn't go away with the rash I'll be taking him to have THAT checked!

ugh sorry to hear that we get strep one to two times a year. For some kids that's their only symptom at all, the rash that is.

Well it's good that the bumps could be explained by the strep...I didn't know they could get a rash like that with it. Elijah's never had strep so I have nothing to compare stories with on that one. Hopefully the splotches are the same, and start going away.

apparently the rash popped up right at the beginning because he is eatin and drinkin fine.  could be why he hasnt been sleepin well...the tummy aches. you kknow what? i just remembered he woke up nigt before last saying he had a booboo on his tongue, that makes sense now.  doc said he should feel fine by saturday.  the bumps are def. strep related but the red splotches are possibly related to the strep. doc isnt sure, we have to see if they go away with therest of the symptoms. excuse my typing, imon my phone

Aww, poor Gabe! YUCKY!!! It wasn't that long ago that I was close enough to having strep that they gave me a shot of penicillin in the rear. Right now Elijah and I are fighting colds I guess...thankfully Aubryana hasn't caught anything yet. Strep is just the worst! I can deal with a stuffy nose, and sneezing but my throat hurting...no thank you! I like being able to swallow without felling pain. I hope he feels better soon!

Hmm...IDK. I'm glad he's got an appointment today, you are SOO lucky to be able to get a same day appointment, I call at 7 am to the hospital on base, which is when they open up same day appointments and half the time they're already gone...not sure how, but they are. Let us know what you find out, and whatever it is, I hope it's nothing too serious, and that it goes away soon!

All of my kids have had all of the recommended shots, included the varicella (chicken pox).  The pictures don't show it very well because I couldn't get him to sit still long enough, but those splotches are much larger than a bug bite, there's not "head" where the bite occured and there's no tell tale bump like bites normally have.  It's just a smooth, flat red splotch that feels a little warm to the touch, but not much.  The whole area of red is barely raised, but it's evenly raised if that makes sense.  He has an appt at 930

I looked at the other pics, and the only things that do NOT say viral to ME, are the red splotchy ones on his leg/foot...that looks almost like a bug bite...Better safe than sorry though...I'd call and at least ask the dr about it.

Did they get vaccinated for it? Both of mine have been, it's just part of the shots they do now...

I wonder if it's roseola (or is it rosacea? I can't remember which is which...i had one or the other as a child and it looked similar) Common childhood rash, looks like that...usually accompanied by fever....couple that with Lilly and maybe..?

I put more pics up in my profile.  I'm thinking a viral rash too.  When he was 2 months old he had a similar rash, only it didn't have the large, red splotchy patches.  It was just the fine red bumps all over.  He had no fever then.  I took him to the ER being as he was so little.  Turns out he had early pneumonia in his right lung and ended up staying 2 days in the hospital.  After a shot of rocephin the rash went away.  I hope it's not related to that again!  I'd rather it be just some run of the mill virus.

Since he's had a fever, it may be a viral rash...

No he hasn't had any shots since his 2 year check up, a year ago.  I'm gonna call at 830 and see about getting him in. It's not bothering him though.
