We get offered oxygen not usually gas. They don't even let us. Use gas during dental procedures if were pregnant. They offer pain meds through an iv I received a narcotic named dilauded. And then my epidural

Oh how interesting, our gas and air is like through a funnel which you hold and breath through (no mask) :) we can also have an injection (i believe in the thigh) called Pethadine. And a tens machine, like some electronic thing that goes on your back to ease pain. I just find it really interesting how different countries work! Thanks ladies :)

I had gas and air and a diamorphine injection in my leg with my first baby..it was good but it made me throw up lol..the gas and air didnt seem to do anything apart from give me dry mouth..

planning on the same this time around unless i need to have a epidural due to complications or anything. X

I'm in uk i had pethadine with my first 10yrs ago butit made me sick so with my son i had a diamorphine shot. That stuff was ace. Gas and air takes the edge off the pain slightly and makes it voice go funny lol

I never got the option here. We seem to be pretty set on the epidermal
I had never actually heard about it till watching a show on YouTube.

Same as pethadine. An injection in the thigh/bum its good but makes you feel a bit spaced out. Not to the point where you don't know what's going on tho which i liked. Its what i will have this time if i need more than gas and air. I had an epidural with my first and vowed never to do it again i hated it!

Here in Canada you have the option to use nitrous oxide aka 'laughing gas'.

Yes there is epidural in the uk but it tends to be the last option. The midwives try to get us to think of other pain relief first, and try different positions, movements a bath etc to ease the pain. Gas and air is offered after paracetamol, then pethidine etc, epidurals are available but as they slow labour down and increase the chance if interventions like forceps and c section they are offered last. My last baby i only had paracetamol! I am looking forward to gas and air this time lol xx

They stuck something in my IV for pain in between contractions that made me high as a kite and also caused me to have violent uncountable vomiting, it started with an S, the name escapes me.
