Panicking and Needing some help

In June I had a stillborn little boy due to chromosonal problems at 5 months. I had a period around August 21st and not in Spetember so I took a  HPT which was positive on the 25th, after three negative tests. (I just knew I was!). I went to the E.R on the 30th because of some cramping and light spotting and they also said I was pregnant and checked my HCG and Progesterone. In the ultrasound I dont think they really saw anything which worries me soo bad. I had a follow up visit at the doctors office on the 2nd of Oct. and they checked my HCG and Prog. again. They called me and said it (my HCG) had doubled and my prog. was good. So they concluded that I had a viable interuterine pregnancy but that at this stage now they should be able to see SOMETHING in an ultrasound. Should I be worried??  If my levels are doubling can I be misscarrying?

Hi!
I'm sorry that you lost your little boy!  But you certainly don't seem to have a fertility problem--congratulations! The HCG can double for quite awhile before we are able to see anything on ultrasound.  Usually the number has to be 2000 or greater before ultrasound can confirm that the pregnancy is intrauterine and viable.
If your blood tests are all good, it certainly suggests that everything is developing normally.  Be sure to discuss the possibility of CVS or amnio with your doctor.
CVS or chorionic villus sampling has to be done between 9 and 11 weeks gestational age.  There are pros and cons to each test and you may decide that you don't want any of them, but its a good idea to have all the information!
Be very good to yourself with this pregnancy!

Good luck!

First, I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost a baby in April at 17 weeks due to Chromosomal abnormalities.  I know how hard that can be.

Second, I've just gone through something very similar in regards to your current situation, as well.  My LMP was Aug 17th. (the day after I turned 30) :) HPT was positive on Sept 13th.  I started bleeding on Sept 23rd and went to the ER.  They took blood and did an U/S but saw no sac.  My HCG levels were at 4500 which is relatively high for 5 weeks (which is what I thought I was).  2 days later at a follow up with an OB they took blood again and it had doubled (this was a Friday 9/25/09).  That weekend I bled all weekend and thought I was miscarrying.  Monday they took more blood and did another U/S and saw only a Sac and yolk sac no fetal pole or HB.
My HCG had doubled again so they scheduled an U/S for this past Monday and FINALLY there was a Fetal Pole and a Heartbeat!
The OB said that we were measuring only 6w4d as opposed to 7 weeks like we thought and that literally a day can be the difference between seeing and not.
When I got home Monday night I had some really bad (what I thought were) gas pains so I took some Gasx and tums and then the next morning I wiped brown and white discharge after peeing.  I thought I was miscarried and done because it was so thick and as it turns out- nope that's normal- it could be due to the transvaginal U/S or sex or anything so we're still viable! :)

Anyway my point is give it time.  I've been having every possible pregnancy symptom and complication that you can imagine but we still have a heartbeat. (knock on wood) You're about a week, give or take, behind me and we only just saw a HB this week so don't stress yet.   I hope this helps! And I hope we both end up with babies next May/June!  :)

Let me know what happens at your next U/S...
