Positive ultrasound...miscarriage symptoms?

My girlfriend is pregnant. She is 18 years old and about 5 weeks pregnant. The other day she went to the ER because she has been having symptoms of miscarriage. Chronic cramps in the pelvic area, stress on her back, white/pink discharge, and just last night she has been vomiting and having nausea. Although, the doc at the hospital did an ultrasound and determined that implantation was normal as well as her hormone levels. She told me that she regretted to tell the doc about her other symptoms...I suppose she only mentioned the cramping. But still I am confused, why are there so many signs of miscarriage?

Those aren't only signs of miscarriage, they are signs of early pregnancy as well and very common.

If she has vaginal bleeding AND worsening abdominal pain then she should return to a physician for evaluation.

Every pregnancy is different.  Some women do experience some cramping around the time they would normally have a period, along with mild backaches.  Spotting in early pregnancy is also not unheard of.  The vomitting and being nauseous is common in pregnancy.  As long as the ultrasound and hormone levels looked good, I would not be too concerned.  However, make sure your friend keeps her doctor up to date on her symptoms b/c severe cramping and bleeding can be a sign of a possible miscarriage.
