Pregnant Vegan

I am a pregnant vegan, and I constantly have meat cravings. I have been a vegan for three years, so I do not understand why I keep thinking about meat. Can anyone tell me why I am having these strong cravings?

I so agree with CurfewX.  There were things I did not like at all that I ate when pregnant and things I normally loved that I ate none of when pregnant.  If I told you how much grapefruit I consumed . . . wow, lots.  It was my body seeking the nutrients in the grapefruit for the pregnancy.

Talk to your doctor about what you may need to do to in order to substitute the meat as again, curfewX advise.

By the way, why did you go vegan?

I went vegan because I did not want to harm animals anymore. I will talk to my doctor about my cravings when I see him next week.
Oh, okay.  I was just curious as people do it for various reasons.  If it was for health, I was going to say at this point, it may be okay to add in some types of protein.  Do you eat fish or anything?
I do not eat fish. I do eat mock meat. I am trying to get more protein by eating peanut butter.
I know a lot of protein can be gained through beans too if your digestive tract can take it.  I loved peanut butter when pregnant.  I ate a lot of cheese too.  Are you able to have dairy on your diet?  There are the other butters too like almond butter.  Eggs?  Or you don't do those either?
I love beans and almond butter! I do not eat eggs or dairy products. I am trying my best to get enough protein and vitamins.
Ya, it's a little harder for you but you can do it!

Our bodies and minds do STRANGE things when we're pregnant.  I craved taco bell burritos with hot sauce, almost every single day.  Normally I could take or leave Taco Bell, but I couldn't stand the cravings when I was pregnant.

Sometimes, cravings can be an indication that you're not getting enough of certain nutrients.  Since you have been a vegan for several years, you have probably worked out substitutes for meat protein, but you might ask your doctor just in case you're deficient.
