Pregnant with heart in heart

Hi guys. I found out I'm pregnant and was wondering if any1 has any info on being pregnant with a hole in the heart. The condition I have is VSD and there's not much on the Internet about the problems or issues I might face when I'm pregnant. Any1 any info/advice?

Thanks girls. Made me feel better. I'm very early on but will keep you updated. Sounds like a good idea setting up a website for others to see.

Just keep your doctor informed and keep your cardiology appointments. You'll have to discuss your personal situation with your doctor and work in conjunction with the cardiologist about your pregnancy and also the birth of your baby. Some women with heart conditions may need a cesarean delivery and others a very low-intervening delivery (no drugs that could interfere with your condition). Let us know how things go for you so there's more information out there for other women with VSD! Maybe you could start a website and collect stories from other women who've been pregnant with VSD.

Hi Llysii :)
You have nothing to worry about. I was born with a hole in my heart that I had to have monitored most of my life. (Mine was an ASD) I didnt keep up with my yearly checkups however. When I was 20 I had a very very healthy and easy pregnancy with my son (who is now 8 years old) and had no complications with my heart whatsoever. Even though the hole was quite moderately sized by this point. After the pregnancy I resumed my regular cardiologist checkups and ended up having to have the hole surgically closed when I was 24 because it had gotten big enough that it began causing mild chest pains. If you are having symptoms from your VSD get in to see a cardiologist who will no doubt assure you that you will be perfectly fine throughout your pregnancy even with a hole in your heart :) Also keep in mind that its a good idea to take your baby to visit a cardiologist too as these things tend to be genetic. Perhaps after the baby is born, if it is warranted, you could look into having the hole "patched" .Its a relatively easy and painless procedure thanks to modern medicine. I was actually awake the whole time and watched it on the little TV beside me.
