Probiotics during pregnancy...and headache question

I was wondering if Probiotics are safe to take during pregnancy? I have GI issues which cause me to have (TMI Sorry) Diarreah all the time. I haven't had a solid bowel movement in YEARS! I contribute it to IBS. Anyways I was hoping that a probiotic could help with this issue, but wasn't sure if it was safe to take while pregnant.

I also want to ask if anyone knows anything about the One A Day womens vitamins? I take one daily with a folic acid vitamin as my prenatals as the high iron in the real prenatals causes me to have nausea really bad. The local pharmacist recommended it to me, but my DF and I both noticed that since I have actually started taking it on a daily basis, I have had a headache that has lasted for 2 weeks, with slight numbness to the head. I have called my doctor about the headaches, but he isn't in on Wednesday's, so I am guessing I won't get a call back until tomorrow. I left a message on his answering service. Anyways does anyone know whether the one a day's can cause frequent reoccuring headaches?

I asked my Dr at my first prenatal visit about probiotics and was told it's completly safe.

As for the vitamins I take two children chewables. The prenatals make me so sick to my stomach. I also take calcium and folic acid.

I suffer from IBS so I know the difference in pain! Its not that at all! it goes round to my back and shooots up my spine into my Neck and they have been happening for 3 days. LOL

Well can't you ring an Ambulance and then you get put into a bed and seen straight away.... Thats what happened the other day when I couldnt breathe cause I took a tablet for my freaking headaches!!!! Which I am getting now LOL.....

If they get so bad ring an Ambulance and say you fainted and you're really scared.

Yeah, I too am not fond of taking medications at all, whether prescription or not. As far as an Emergency doctor that requires me to sit in an emergency waiting room for HOURS, and I honestly don't have the patience for that!

As far as your stabbing pain in your tummy goes, could it be gas?

I have an appointment July 15th. I called my doctor today but he isn't in the office on Wednesday's so I'm guessing I will have to wait until tomorrow to get a phone call back. I have been eating tylenol like candy every 4 hours for the last 2 weeks now, and I'm sick of it.

Thanks Pameladawn! The Womens vitamins when compared to a prenatal vitamin contains all the same vitamins and the same amount of vitamins except for the Iron and Folic acid, which is why I take 2 800mg tablets of the Folic Acid. The only thing it doesn't really contain is Iron.

I am hoping a probiotic will help with my GI issues. My sister whom has colitis and chrons takes a probiotic instead of having to take steroids, so I was hoping it would help me too.

Probiotics should be very safe during pregnancy, I took them myself as they help to improve your immune system and my midwife said it was no problem. It's the same stuff basically as in your breast milk anyway!

As for the womans vitamin I'm not too sure, however I remember being told not to take simply a womans vitamin because it didn't have the right mix of stuff to properly benefit yourself and your child...it could be too low in certain things, and too high in others. Maybe stop taking it until you can see the doctor and just keep taking the folic acid just to play it safe?
There are prenatals that you can get that are made of a more natural source to help ease the nausea with the iron, and some even contain ginger to help prevent it as well! Try looking online if need be, or at a health food store to find a good one vs a pharmacy :)
