Questions about post Mirena

I recently had my Mirena IUD removed so that my husband and I could try to conceive again in the next few months.  As of now it has been a little over a month since it was taken out and menstruation has not resumed. After digging around on the internet trying to do a little research on my own as to what to expect after Mirena, I found countless horror stories about people waiting months and months on end for menstruation and ovulation to get back to normal and others who in general had and are having difficulty conceiving after using Mirena.  I would just like to know what is normal and what I should expect.

Thanks!

i used mirena and had it removed back in april. the first 2 months i was irregular but things got back to normal after that. I am 1 week late and fouind out that i am pregnant. Alot has to do with your hormones getting back on track, try learning about natural family planning, they teach you about checking your tempature daily and tracking it, looking for signs about ovulation, this will help u if your cycle is not back completly so you know at least when your ovulating.  Hope this helps out. Good luck

Hi!
I'm sorry for the delay in response--was very ill for awhile

In my experience, women who had normal cycles before the Mirena was inserted, resumed normal cycles shortly after the IUD was removed.  Women with irregular cycles prior to insertion, are likely to resume their irregular pattern.

If you were my patient, and had not had a normal period within 4-8 weeks after removal, I would be inclined to try a 5 day prescription for Femara or Clomid to help stimulate ovulation and get the ball rolling again.  If your cycles were previously normal, one month might do the trick.  If previously irregular, you might want to continue with meds until you conceived--just to speed up the process.

Hope this helps!

i had the para guard iud. little different because it is copper and has no hormones. i had an awful experience. it was so painful and i was bleeding so heavily i would soak through a pad and my pants in less than an hour! i ended up having to have it removed because my body rejected it and it got stuck. however, after i had it removed my period has been crazy. i  was getting 3 every month for a while and right now i am a week late and all pregnancy tests have been negative. i would see your doctor, see if they have any suggestions and maybe do something to help your cycle come again.
