Quitting cold turkey.

Hi my name is Krissy. I just recently found out that I am pregnant with my first child. The doctor is not sure how pregnant I am but is guessing around 5 weeks.  I have been taking hydrocodone for severe pain for almost 2 years. I was wondering if quitting all at once is safe for my unborn child. My ob/gyn has me on 6 5/325 mg norcos a day and I'm really worried about my baby. What should I do?

Thank you so much. I've been really stressed out and worried. Does hydrocodone have any birth defects or anything like that? How old is your son now and is he completely healthy?

I took Hydrocodone throughout my entire pregnancy. I started tapering down around 34 weeks so my son would not be effected at birth. He is healthy and weighed almost 9lbs at birth. I have a very bad back and it didn't get any better during my pregnancy.
I can honestly say quitting anything cold turkey during pregnancy is never a good idea. The stress of the withdrawls as well as the stress from the pain can cause you to miscarry. I'd say consult with your doctor and see about lowering the dosage and taking them only when the pain is unbearable. Before I became pregnant I was taking 10/325 mg 6-9 a day. During my pregnancy I was down to no more than 4 a day and there were some days I wouldn't take any and just dealt with the pain. But again I would discuss this with your doctor. Good Luck to you
