Quitting smoking.

I'm a heavy smoker, I smoke almost a pack a day. I found out on the 26th of this month that I'm about 4 weeks pregnant so obviously I need to quit, I'm confused on how to do it though. Some people told me to quit cold turkey before any damage is done to the baby but others tell me to gradually quit because if I quit all at once the withdrawals will cause to much stress on my body and i'll most likely miscarry? Any advice?

I quit as soon as I figure out at around 5 weeks, and was also also pack to a pack and a half a day smoker I don't think the withdrawals on your body will cause you to miscarry this early on, but then again I'm not a doctor. I think the gradual stopping is for mothers who figure out when they are further along with their pregnancies and the baby has time have addiction to the nicotine itself, which would cause the baby to withdrawal. Again, I am not 100% certain but I hope this helps. You can do it, and congratulations on your baby!

I was smoking a pack plus when I found out back in February. My doctor was the one who told me to cut back and not quit cold turkey. That withdrawal are worse for the baby than to cut back slowly. However it was harder than it seemed and I still smoke. Granted it's like 2-3 a day but my little guy is as healthy as can be

I've had different advice from different doctors. I had a high risk specialist at one point tell me cutting down was fine and to stop when I was ready. I was also going through a very messy breakup with my girls father so he said the stress of quitting plus that was more dangerous. But my OB/GYN said I can quit whenever and it wouldn't harm the baby. Eventually I listened to my body and natural instincts instead of other people and i quit cold turkey at around 15 weeks. I'm now 37 weeks along and can't breathe just because of the extra weight and can't imagine smoking on top of that. Put your ultrasound picture in places you normally smoke and instead of buying a pack of ciggarettes buy something good for you when you're craving like your favorite fruit smoothie or a travel size baby lotion you can smell to help bring your mind to what's important. All you can do is your best, you and the baby deserve nothing less. Remember that!
