Refused a homebirth, for the second time by two consultants! Do i go against medical advice or not????

Hi all

I am 39 weeks pregnant, and feeling pretty crap today. Seen second consultant today for second opinion. But was refused a homebirth! My midwife seemed happy for me to go along with it, she said she see's no issue with it. But both consultants disagree! Aparently, i am at more risk of bleeding more as i've had 4 children before. I was also told by the consultant today, that if i were to go ahead with homebirth, when i do actually go into labour, midwives can actually refuse to come out and deliver baby as i've been refused twice!! I don't know what to do now. I had a homebirth two years ago with my 4th, everything went extremely well! No complications what so ever! I will, however speak to my miwife again and see where i can go from here.

Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem, any advice would be greatly appreciated! x

Hi..

Unable to contact midwife, she is off for the week! Typical. Looks like it'll be a hosp birth then, not happy at all. But as long as my baby is well, i am just concerned as the treatment is not at all nice in this hosp. My other births, apart from my 2yr old, were dreadfull!!! But oh well, such as life ay ladies. We live about 20-30mins away from hosp. Midwife would not be able to deliver baby, it'll be whoever is on duty! And complications in previous births, all normal deliverys. No abnormal bleeding! Also, they have left it to late for me to argue the matter as i am 39weeks, so time is limited! Never mind, as long as baby is safe and well. If i had been able to get hol of my midwife, then we could have discussed it, but as she is off i can't. Cheers for the comments ladies. x

It's odd how your midwife says all is well and then 2 others say no. Have you had lots of bleeding in previous births? Is it possible to do a birth center or have your midwife at the hospital? Or do you live really close to a hospital?
It really is your choice. I guess you would really have to outweigh the pro's and con's and do it fast if you're 39 weeks!

What ever your choice, I would definetly make sure that a trained professional is there with you. If you can't find one at all, I am sorry to suggest not doing a homebirth. It's just not worth the risks for you and baby.
