Thank you for all of your posts. I'm sure she will check with her doctor next week when she goes in for her visit, but we were curious if it was normal to do one at the end.
I think they should do one to determine the size and position of the baby. At least that is what my doctor did.. they want to make sure he/she is growing like they should and if they are head down, or "sunny side up". =)
I did not read any of the other posts, I'm sure most will say the same.
My doc only did later ones once I went over due. I had one every 2 or 3 days once I was overdue with both mine, if I remember correctly. I know I did with my second because the doc was concerned because I had to have a c section with my first. He was just checking to make sure there were no complications.
I had one at 36 weeks to check the babies position and size. Most of my friends also had one around then also. I think it depends on the Dr.
I think 3-4 is routine, one at the first visit, one about 12 weeks, one at 18-20 and one at the end. Give or take the 12 week one.
I had a 3D u/s at 28 weeks and it was awesome!
w/ my 1st 2 i only had the one u/s at 18-20wks. w/ my 3rd i had 2 u/s, one at 12wks (i think) and one at 18-20wks. this time i've had 4 u/s and my doc (new office this time) said that they also do a routine u/s at 32wks... so i'll get one more! i don't think its routine, though for every office. i've read that a lot of girls on here have only had 1 and were wondering the same thing. until this pregnancy (my 4th) i thought only 1 u/s was routine, too!!!
i hope its not too late for her to have a 4D done... i would do it if i could!
My doctor said she does antother at 32 weeks. But the 4d ones are so much more detailed. I am going to have a 4d one done at 32 weeks in addition to the one at my doctors office.
Not ususally, most OB offices only offer one level II U/S at 20 weeks. I had afew more toward the end because I was having issue, my son was measuring small so I had to do U/S every week and NST to monitor the growth.
They say it's best to do the 3/4D around 28 weeks to get a good facial because you can't see much if it's too crowded in there.
