Sick! Need some remedies!

I knew I felt something coming on!! Last night after work it became extremely hard for me to swallow. Than last night I was kept awake by air bubbles in my throat and I felt like I couldn't breathe! Almost like there was soo much air in my body and I couldn't burp it up..it was horrible. Now today I can barely swallow and I have a cough like I've been smoking for years (and I've never smoked)! I feel like **** and this is the first time I've been sick my entire Pregnancy (23 weeks today). I know its partly because of the weather change. My body feeds off of heat and warmth and I am NEVER sick in the Spring and Summer. But as soon as fall comes along my body breaks down! It's been so cold this past week all of a sudden, so I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. But I'm looking for any remedies that worked for you ladies while being Pregnant because I know were limited to things we can take or ingest. I can't seem to eat anything solid so yogurt and soup have become my best friends. Decaf tea too! But I cant afford to loose any weight and I dont want me being sick to affect my little guy. And as it is I have a very weak immune system so I'll prolly be sick for a couple more days. Should I try a cold shake? Any ideas? Please help I want to get better asap!! :)

Sweetie you will not be able to take any steroids so don't let them think you can take meds for a cold. I work for a Dr. who perscribes prednisone and she makes her patients stop taking them when she knows they are prego!

I'm sorry you feel like ****! Call your Dr. and ask for something they know is safe! Feel better!

The boullion cubes are used for cooking, but when put in just hot water, it would act like a super concentrated (and probably salty) version of chicken soup broth without the noodles.  The warmth might feel good too.

Thanks ladies!! It does suck being sick and I wanted to avoid taking any medicine but if this doesnt clear up over the weekend I just may have too!

Are we allowed to have cough drops? I always have them in my purse because my throat used to always get sore and I had one the other day and read the back and it said consult your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding. And I know a lot of things say that and its fine but it made me think...are these bad for the baby? Because they do help my throat!

Also, a girl at work told me chicken boulin cubes are a MIRACLE when sick. I think she said just add one to water and drink it..anyone ever heard of this before?? I'm desperate to try anything!

You could try some tea with honey and I have always heard that black licorice helps soothe a sore throat (if you can tolerate black licorice).  Of course, gargling with warm salt water might help heal too.

I hope you feel better soon..

I would contact your doc and see if you can get a prescrption for zithromax. It will take care of everything withen 48 hours. I had phumonia(sp) double ear infection and double sinus infection back in June or July, my doc gave me zithromax and prednisone and my symptoms were cleared up in 72 hours.

The only other thing my doc would allow me to take was robitussin DM, and or Mucinex DM

Which in my case never worked, you can also use cough drops to help with the sore throat.

Hope you feel better soon! I know what a pain it is tobe sick while preggers
