I'm glad someone answered that more fully for me! I'm an idiot for not realizing the timing of the test coincided with the down syndrome screen!

Its actually used on any high risk mom to check for down syndrome, I had it done at 10 weeks and my insurance paid for it becuz I am high risk due to being 39 yrs old.  The main reason it is used to check for down syndrome.  That's the only thing it checked for actually besides gender.  You can have it done if aren't high risk

Yes. It's fairly new in the USA. I dint know what it's called honestly. But it's done to tell you baby's genetic markers such as blood type and gender. Usually only used for rh neg moms. There is a small (I believe 2%) margin of error. I would ask your ob. Why so anxious?
