Stress & Work

So before I found out I was pregnant I started a new job. I've been there for about 4weeks when I found out and decided to be open and honest and tell them ASAP. At first, they were amazing about it! Said it wasn't a problem plus they'd take me back after the birth! I was so happy as I was stressing about what they would say and do. Five weeks later and I'm 22weeks but I've had some complications and asked to be put on light duties, they seemed fine with it but now I'm just not sure. The other day they told me I would have grill close and would have to scrub and clean 10 heavy grill plates to which I said would be difficult for me but they said they were understaffed I didn't really have a choice. They've also consistently rostered me on a station that requires leaning over a chopping board to dress burgers and if presses quite hard on my abdomen. So I asked for no more shifts on that station but I asked about 4weeks ago and was told it would be no problem. One of the managers is extremely rude about everything and makes me feel quite low because I refuse to work on that station. There's other small things like telling me I should be fine carrying heavy chip boxes because another pregnant girl can. It's putting a lot of stress on me physically and emotionally and my partner wants me to leave because of it but I would just feel weak and stupid if I did plus the extra money is good even though because we all have to sign up to traineeships to be employed, we get the lowest pay.. Any advice from other mums? I'm in a bit of a rough spot :(

Where do you work? I work at five guys burgers and fries, and my managers are very nice, they always help me out. Im 23 weeks and when i had felt like i couldnt lift anything or do something, i just straight up told them Im not doing it. Or id ask my coworkers to do it for me. They cant fire you because your pregnant. I have even set my own date for when im leaving the company. I hope things work out for you!

I had very similar issues at my job but I finally quit. You can get and nd doctors note from your OB saying you can only lift a certain amount of weight and that you need so many breaks and stuff. There are laws that protect pregnant women so if I were you I would look into it and see what your rights are. Good luck! I hope I helped some. :)

I work at a burger place called Grilled Burgers. They were very nice at the beginning but I think I may have annoyed them somewhere in the past couple weeks and I have no idea how. It's just hard when I have to keep saying I can't do certain things, it feels like I'm complaining .. I was planning to leave at 30wks and come back at the beginning then I changed to leaving at 30wks and not coming back but now I think I'll end up leaving earlier.. Thanks for the advice, think I'll have to have another talk with my partner and maybe get a doctors opinion? x

That actually helps heaps since I've been working 8hr shifts and told I can only have a 15min break when I was sure legally it was half an hour.. They said they didn't need a doctors note and just to tell them when I had to go on light duties but I think the notes a good idea since they have to abide by it.. Thank you so much

You should have your Dr give you a note on what you can and can not do then your employer will have no choice but to obey it

Just be careful it also depends on state laws about firing you. In florida they can fire you for anything and they dont have to tell you so you cant prove they discriminated against you being pregnant.
