Suboxone/Subutex during pregnancy.

. I have a question. I am 6 weeks pregnant and am on Suboxone 4 mg a day. My doctor is going to switch me to subutex. Is this okay to take while im pregnant or this going to cause problems for the baby. I dont want him/her to go thru withdrawals......what can I do? and is it going to be okay to stay on the subutex? Anybody else taken this while pregnant or know someone? I dont want to cause my baby any harm from this....

I would talk to your Dr. as well as a pediatrician regarding this. They will be able to explain to you any possible side effects as well as the risks and benefits of taking the medication during pregnancy. The pedi can also let you know how they would handle the situation if the baby was born addicted to the medication.
One thing is for sure though. Make sure that your OB is aware of ALL meds that you are currently taking, and DONT stop taking any medications suddenly before speaking with your Dr. The risk of you going through withdrawls could be greater to your baby then the medication itself.
Best of luck to you!!
I take vicodin right now for severe pain due to a neurological disorder (I have been taking it for over 18 months and I'm almost 9 weeks pg). My OB is aware and advised me that there are no known defects caused by narcotics and this is probably the safest way they have to control my pain, the major risk is that the baby will be born addicted and have to be weaned off, therefor as long as my body can tolerate it, I am doing my best to wean off the meds completely and cope with the pain as best as I can by the third trimester. They advised me not to stop the meds suddenly because the withdrawls could cause m/c. They also advised that I will need to continue the meds if I cannot tolorate the pain without them, because extreme pain can cause too much stress on your body and the baby. (I am praying that I will be lucky enough to be like some of the other people that I have read about with my disorder and have some type of "remission" during the pg) They also informed me that they have had women on methadone (for pain) throughout their entire pg. The babies were fine, but they did have to go to NICU for a few days to a few weeks to be weaned from the narcotics. I'm not sure if subutex is the same or not.

Did you tell your doctor that you are pregnant? If so and they say it is ok then things should be fine.
