Hi, This is Abhishek from Delhi. My wife is having 22 months pregnancy. In the latest USG, Binder Syndrome is found. I need suggestion on this.
Medical History :
1. 1 miscarriage in the 2nd month of pregnancy
2. 1 infant death:
Non Immune Hydrops, Fetal Ascites (detected at 7th month)
Born preterm at AIIMS: 34th week
Required 2 surgeries for Intestinal Obstruction at AIIMS, died at 3 months
Investigation revealed : Chromosomes normal (Karyotyping : normal), Cause of Fetal Ascites was not found.
TORCH & Parvo virus : negative, echo : normal
3. Current pregnancy : LMP : Feb 18, 2011, 22 weeks
All screening tests for chromosomal diseases : normal, PAPPA & HCG (Dual test) : positive, Triple Test : negative
USG at 16th week (Dr. Ashok Khurana): Ok
USG at 20th week (Dr. Rajesh Uppal): shows : Fetal nasal bone is normal in size, but is at an exaggerated angle with the frontal bone giving a flat profile to the face (Binder Syndrome, Fronto Maxillary, Dysplasia, Mid Facial Hypoplasia)
4. Mother is on Carbamazepine (1200 mg/day), Clobazam (20mg/day) since past 8 years. Also suffering from Hypothyroidism (Thyroxine 100 mg/day). Possibility of anti-conversant induced teratogenicity is there.
5. Blood group : Mother B+, Father : O+
6. Suggested for Amniocentesis & Abortion by Dr. Madhulika Kabra (HOD, Genetics, AIIMS) & Dr. I. C. Verma (HOD Genetics, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital). As per them, the Binder Syndrome is due to intake of Carbamazepine.
