Taking valaciclovir during first trimester of pregnancy.

I took valaciclovir during my first trimester of pregnancy (around 10 weeks) for a cold sore. I took the medication for 3 consecutive days. I read online that the medication is considered a class B drug and has no increased risk for birth defects. I am a bit worried now and wanted a second opinion.

Hi!  How far along are you?  Congrats on the pregnancy!  Valtrex is typically considered safe during pregnancy!  Women even use it for long term suppression therapy for genital herpes without any issues.

sorry, I wasn't done.  Pregnancy category b drugs are deemed safe by the FDA for pregnancy.  Other pregnancy category b drugs are prenatal vitamins and tylenol.  So, I would feel confident that your using this is safe. You can check with your doctor too but would not worry!
I am now 11 weeks and 2 days along
Yes, I agree that this is safe, and routinely used during pregnancy. Absolutely check with a doctor and a pharmacist if you'd like, but you and baby should be fine if you took it at recommended doses.

Congrats :)
Yay!!  You are almost out of your first trimester.  I loved my second trimester as I felt pretty good then.  You are feeling good?
