Musical toys! All my kids had some kind of musical toy that lured them to sleep at night. My 2 yr old has a glow worm that lights up and plays music. And dont forget stuffed toys... they are a lifesaver when kiddo is old enough to have them in bed.

a few more would be... thermometer (helps ease your mind a TON).. baby finger nail clippers... mittens so baby doesn't scratch face... baby powder and diaper cream!.. if it gets cold by you a car seat cover.... a bunch of receiving blankets (they end up being used to wipe up spit up like every time you use one so you are constantly washing them)... onsies (you will put one under every outfit) ... baby monitor (if you go out to moe the lawn or shovel you will do it during baby's naps and want to know when baby wakes up)... soft towels and washcloths that wont scratch baby's fragile skin

category 0-6 month needs!!
1. bassinet/crib in your room!
2. swing (preferably with upright and laying positions)
3. baby bouncer seat (great for feedings and naps!)
4. car seat (obviously)
5. stroller that car seat attaches to, perfect for shopping and other outings
6. floor play mat
7. chewy toys that you can freeze for teething
8. a lot of hand sanitizer
9. diaper bag that is always ready to go! (so much harder to run out the door with a new born)
10. if you are formula feeding, premade bottles that you just grab and screw a nipple onto, very convenient when your in a hurry or someone else offers to feed baby, also helps if baby gets gassy, because you don't have to shake it there is so much less air bubbles in it.

Sleepers! Especially those bag zip ones! Buttons are a pain go for zippers. They are especially nice since are son was born just as it was getting cold. Multiple bottles we have like 6-9 now SO much easier. Body pillows are amazing too (:
