Trying to get pregnant after D& C

Hi, I had a D& C done on April 20th and I still haven't try to get pregnant I'm just waiting for like to more months and taking all the precautions also taking prenatals I did't get my period until july 19 but because the doc gave me pills to get it my periods are irregulars could that be bad if I try to get pregant again? I want to start trying ASAP but if I do'nt get my period could that be the cause of another miscarriage? please help.

Thanks.

Hi!
I'm sorry that you had a loss! The answer to your question is yes and no.  Yes, irregular periods are going to make it more difficult to conceive and no, they won't predispose you to another miscarriage.  The majority of miscarriages are caused by something going wrong with the development of the baby, and are probably for the best.
If you were my patient, I would do some basic blood testing, thyroid function, prolactin level, FSH, and progesterone levels.  Then depending upon how the tests turned out, I would start you on some medication(s) to help you ovulate and regulate your cycles.  That will definitely shorten the wait until your next pregnancy.
It is standard to recommend waiting about 3 months after a D&C to try again, because there is a slightly increased risk of another miscarriage if you try too soon.  But once the three months has passed, you are going to get results a lot sooner if you are taking some medications to stimulate your ovaries.  I like Femara, and if you have polycystic ovaries, you might do well with Metformin.
I hope this helps!
Good luck!

My doctor highly recommended at least one normal cycle before trying again. Some say three but he said one and it sounded better to me. I was lucky to have my period about 6 weeks after 2 D&C's within one week. I was 20 weeks in and the fetus was about 8 weeks old. DONT ASK!!  My doctor suggested waiting for my body to be back on track and it makes it easier for dating purposed when you do get preg. You will be able to know a more accurate due date for your baby. My hubby and I waited one cycle and luckily got preg immediately on first try. I am 8 weeks now and trying to stay calm about it all this time round. It sounds like you are very excited to get preg again and I was too - I think though that I am happy I waited for cycle as it made me feel like my body was normal again after D&C. Hope this helps a little bit.

Hi kamula, I'm sorry for your loss. I had a blighted ovum as well - they thought it at about 4-1/2 weeks and we kept getting u/s and blood tests for the next two weeks until we got the final decision. My doc said no sex for two weeks (until my follow up appt) too. I had some bleeding after my d&c for a day or so, then nothing for about four days - then I started bleeding a lot for two days, then it subsided. It will be 5 weeks since my d&c on monday, and still no period :(  Definitely keep taking your prenatals and eating healthy - soon you will be feeling better and preparing your body for your next baby for sure! :)

Hi I'm new to this forum. I was 5 weeks pregnant when we found out the oblighted ovum, a sack but no baby. We waited one week and got another U/S and the sack reduced in size. I was schedule to have a D&C the very next morning. That was 2 days ago. I'm not having too much bleeding, actually I only see it when I go potty.
I will definietly try to get pregnant again. My doctor advised me to wait 2 months before trying. I have my follow up appoinment on Oct 8. I guess he'll tell me that everything is fine by then.
Also, he advised me NOT to have sex until he authorizes it. And, to keep taking pre natals and eat health.
I was a little mad about lossing my baby and for 2 or 3 days I didnt want to take thr prenatals but my husband kept telling me that my body needs to be healthy for the next baby that I will carry later on....
My periods were never regular before I started taking the pill. That was 5 years ago. With the pill they always came on time (21 days)
I'll keep you guys post it.

My doctor said to wait one cycle, to give my lining time to build back up and so that it will be easy to date the pregnancy. I never stopped taking my prenatals and didn't change my healthy diet so that should all be good. My cycles range from 28-34 days, so the timing is not very regular. I always used to be able to tell when i'm ovulating but now i'm not sure. I thought i was two weeks after the d&c, but then i should have gotten my period already so I don't know i'm pretty confused. I'm fine with waiting a cycle, or even two if it turns out that way - I just want to know that i've got my period back and everything is fine. Being in this gray area right now is frustrating.

Was it hard for you to figure out when you were ovulating after your D&C? I had one on Aug. 24 - I wsa 6-1/2 weeks with a blighted ovum. I still haven't gotten my period yet. I'm going to ttc again after it comes but I am not sure how easy it will be to tell I'm ovulating. I started charting my temp, but the numbers are all over the place right now. Do the normal signs of ovulation come back (CM, pain on one side)? Thanks!
