Unsure of my due date.....no heart beat?

Okay so here is the shortest version possible.....my husband and I have been trying for almost a year for a baby. I got pregnant in June of 2007 and miscarried in July 2007, got pregnant again in October 2007 and miscarried at the end of November 2007. Now, prior to the first miscarriage my period was like clock work, down to the time of day that it started. After the first one it went off the charts...anywhere from 28-39 days and beyond...making it hard to know my ovulation time. Amazingly we tried again this February - and after what felt like a marathon we foundd out the we were pregnant on 03/23/08...becuase of the prior history I was ordered to go to the Doctor the next day. We were ecstatic, I had hCG levels checked, taken off work until further notice, ordered to relax, and put on progesterone to help support the pregnancy. I was scheluded for an u/s on 04/14/08. At the u/s my Doctor said that I looked more consistant with a 5-6 week pregnancy (and since the ovulation time is hard to pin point this made sense), the gestational sak and yolk sak were both present. He ordered a follow up sonogram. I went to the follow up u/s yesterday 04/24/08, he poked and proded around in there...told me that there was the embryonic pole....but he did not find a heart beat. He says by this time I should be 6-7 weeks and a heartbeat should be clearly visible. He tells me that I am going to miscarry again, but he wants to re-scan me again on Monday 04/28/08 and then discuss a pill to help me miscarry or a D & C....which I am not okay with either. I am so confused and don't want to hold onto false hope....but at the same time I don't want to give up so fast. There is nothing they can do for me if I am going to miscarry...so what is wrong with giving it a little more time and seeing where it heads?

Just wondering if anyone else has had to deal with something similiar....and what the outcome was?

Thank you ladies oh so much! I called the doc's office and re-scheduled to 05/05/08, so we shall see then.

hd - oh yes duty nights and his shifts are the worst.....or being on the phone to say good night and then the call comes in and buh bye....haha. But he loves it and all you can do is support them. Silly boys. :)

Joy - Thanks for the website I am headed there now to look around. And thank you for the welcome. I will update after next week. :)

You saw the fetal pole, which is excellent. But honestly it is easy to miss a heartbeat that early. There is a very informative website called Misdiagnosed Miscarriage. You're NOT the only person to be told this, then given a pill and told to have a nice life. There are women who are told this and refuse that pill or a D&C and end up having a healthy baby.

My advice is to continue your progesterone and prenatal vitamins. Get a followup rescheduled for one-two weeks, not on Monday. That way you'll definitely be able to see a heartbeat at those times.

And I wanted to warmly welcome you to our forum! We hope you find many friends here and answers to any and all your questions, no matter how silly they may seem to you.

i had something like this happen to me last year, but they didnt see the baby, they just seen the sac and that was all. It was called a blighted ovum. Did you ever find out what went wrong with your last pregnancies ? Just dont let them make any decisions that you arent okay with. You do have the right to say no to a D & C.Just let them know that you want to wait a couple more weeks just to make sure that things are okay. My doc. wanted to give me a D & C the next day and i said no that if i was meant to m/c that i would do it naturally.  I agree with swade every firefighter deserves a baby :) My fiance is a firefighter and we have a beautiful 2 year old daughter together !!  Oh dont you hate the duty nights though ? haha.

Thank you! You're right every firefighter deserves a baby....congrats on yours :) If this one does end in a miscarriage then we off for genetic testing and all that jazz...unfortunately they are making me wait until 3 consecutive miscarriages. So as hard as it is...I will just wait and see. I hope this pregnancy works out wonderful for you, congrats again!

I have heard of many people on this forum not getting heartbeat until 8-9 weeks, I didnt get a heartbeat until 7.5weeks with my frist pg, but unfortunately I miscarried in May of last year.  I currently am pg again, waited 4months before getting pg again.  But I would ask your doctor to check your HCG levels, and get another scan a week later.  I had four u/s before I had a d and c done in may.. dont give up hope, but if you do misscarry again, go see a specialist.. You dont seem to have a problem getting pg. But they might find that you have a condition of keeping them, and they might help.  good luck and god bless.. It will happen and you will get the baby.. Every firefighter deserves to have that son or daughter, my firefighter is finally getting his..
