Uterine Fibroids

Hi everyone hope all is well. I'm hoping to get some answers. I was recently diagnosed with uterine fibroids. I dont know where they are located. I have an appointment next Wednesday to go over my u/s results. My doctor told me not to be overly concerned about it. That put me at ease. ... Until I went to google and started doing research about it. Once I saw the word hysterectomy I started freaking out. Someone help me

Thanks ladies I really appreciate all your comments. I am anemic so that REALLY scares me now. I don't wanna go to my appointment nervous and shaken up. I don't want a hysterectomy. That's major surgery and that shatters my dream of being a mom. :-(  he told me not to be overly concerned. I'm so nervous.

I also had uterine fibroids and since we had been trying to conceive (for seven years total), my doctor always removed them before treatment.  I had three hysteroscopy surgeries because they continued to come back and they were very simple and recovery was always one day (or less).  Don't worry and good luck at your appointment next week. =)

Hello!  I too have fibroids...or at least did.  We discovered them while investigating my recurrent miscarriages.  In my case, they were having no impact on anything at all (and I'm an oldie of 42..lol).  In some cases they need to be removed, depending on size and location, but the majority of the time Dr.'s just tend to leave them alone.  I have had several ultrasounds since (and am happy to say had a healthy baby boy since being diagnosed as well), and they have never been mentioned to me again.  Hysterectomy is rarely considered a way to remove them anymore and is only done in very extreme circumstances...again, rarely the case.  If your Dr. isn't concerned, I wouldn't be.  And don't let my talk of recurrent miscarriage scare you.  They were NOT the reason and again, rarely are.  But if they are impacting fertility or ability to carry, they now typically just remove them with lasers.  Most women will have one or more in her lifetime...just one of those things.  Nothing at all to worry about.

Hey there, I also have fibroids (thought I only had one until recently when I found out I have more) and am currently 6 months pregnant. Hysterectomy's are NOT necessary unless you are having severe bleeding leading to anemia, etc. Often the women who have a hysterectomy are in their 40s or 50s (fibroids tend to get worse with age).

There are things you can do to lower your estrogen levels (estrogen dominance is one of the causes of fibroids) in your diet, etc, to help to minimize the growth and effect of the fibroids. Before I got pregnant I was taking vitex (chasteberry) to increase progesterone and minimize estrogen -- after about 3 months my menstrual cramps, which before that were dibilitating!, disappeared.
