Vaginal itching

Hi,
Im 25 and a really scared to go to the doctor about this. Infact I havent told anyone about this. I have itching on my vagina almost every night..i dont get it during the day or evenings- just at night when im sleeping.  This has been on for some years (possibly 3-5 yrs). I'm not sexually active at all. Can you please let me know what is going on? I'm seriously very scared and loosing sleep over this. I used Vagisil cream the other day and it helped. I'm aware that I have to use it for a while for it to show it's effect. But the next day when I didnt use it, the itching came back. I do have vaginal discharge but I've read on the internet that it's normal...my vagina isnt sore or red because of the scratching.
Please advise.

it could be something as simple as thrush, which can be a naturally occuring thing. Believe me, whatever it is your dr has seen it a million times and then some and won't be phased by it in the slightest. My brother took a holiday in india and came back having caught scabies on his manhood and he went straight to the dr, who wasn't phased at all and simply had a look, diagnosed the issue and prescribed a cream. He also once went for treatment for crabs. Just go to the dr, they've seen it all before.

Thanks very much for your comments sweetangel and spade.
I'm scared that the doctor might say I have an infection or something like that. Iknow 3-5 years is long but I really didnt have anyone to talk to and I;'m just dead scared to go to the doctor. Vagisil cream helps, Ive just started to use it- been 2 days. I;ve read over the internet about the infection and how it affects the reproductive system and all- all this is making me really scared. I really dont know which direction to look at.

I agree w/ sweetangel7.

A 10 min assessment by the doctor is likely all that it will take to get to the bottom of this - the doctor will probably take a swab (painless) which will be cultured to determine whether you have a microorganism such as  yeast, fungus, bacteria, etc.

I understand your fears about visiting a doctor but 3-5 years is a LONG time to put up with something that causes you this amount of discomfort!  The odds are in your favor that you have something very minor that can be treated very easily but you may need a prescription for this.

Can you share with us what your fears are about visiting the doctor?  They may help us tackle them a little better.

You really should see a doctor...they can test you for infections and treat them properly if found.  It probably isn't a good idea to be using a yeast cream when it could be something else that needs treatment and isn't being treated.

Doctors have seen and heard EVERYTHING...there is nothing you can tell/show your doctor that they would be shocked by!  AND, if you aren't with a doctor who you trust, and can talk to about anything and everything, you need to find one.

Good luck!
