Vitamins & TTC

Hello all!!  I am not pregnant yet but my doctor told me I should start on prenatal vitamins. I haven't started yet but am about to.
I already take the omega 3-6-9's and flaxseed gel pills. I know that you can take prenatal vitamins such as Materna and take the omega's....but is it still safe for me to take my flaxseed?
Has anyone heard whether to cut down on green tea if you're TTC?? I drink it everyday.

So true- always two sides to every coin! I like to err on the side of caution, though. I hope your doctor gives you more insight. Some doctors are really laid back, have no idea but act like they do, or are very adamantly against certain things. You'll have to let us know what they say!

There are always those mixed messages about things like that or they are unclear so I thought maybe someone had some insight!
I just got some prenatals from shoppers and I'll wait to talk to a doctor about the flaxseed!
As far as green tea and not being able to drink it....this makes me sad! LOL
Thanks so much! :)

Ugh, okay, so I continued my search (sorry for all the posts- I hope they are helpful!).

And according to the Mayo Clinic:

"The use of flaxseed or flaxseed oil during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended. Animal studies show possible harmful effects, and there is little information in humans. Flaxseed may stimulate menstruation or have other hormonal effects and could be harmful to pregnancy."

I think it might be best to talk to your doctor about this particular one and it may be best to err on the side of caution and stop taking it.

That last comment was actually a quote from a website. I'm not allowed to post the link to the website. You may be able to find it if you google "Flaxseed during pregnancy."

Flaxseed consumption during pregnancy could be beneficial for fetus brain development.

However, many women are still nervous about consuming the flaxseed while pregnant. Their biggest fear is that it may cause uterine contractions and will lead to pre-term labor.

Well, I'm here to tell you this is only a possibility if you over consume flaxseed. Like everything else in life too much of the flaxseed will be a bad idea, especially during pregnancy. Take caution on the intake of flaxseed and your pregnancy will not endure any complications.

Flaxseed will actually be more beneficial to your pregnancy than harmful. The reason being is because flaxseed is a major source of omega 3 fatty acids, which is highly recommended during pregnancy and breast feeding. Omega 3 fatty acids will enhance the baby's brain development.

In the end, flaxseed is definitely safe to take during pregnancy. Just make sure you keep the dosage to a minimum.

I wouldn't drink the green tea. Maybe switch to another type of tea?!

Flaxseed is very good for you! I don't think there's a link between it and pregnancy at all.

You may also want to take a folic acid with your prenatal. It is also great to take during pregnancy. Here is an excerpt from the March of Dimes website to tell you why:

"Folic acid is a B vitamin that can help prevent birth defects of the brain and spinal cord called neural tube defects (NTDs). Folic acid works to prevent these birth defects only if taken before conception and during early pregnancy."

Vitamin A is the only vitamin I'm aware of that you should NOT take.

Green tea will not effect your ability to conceive but should not be taken if you become pregnant.
