What is everyone's favorite?

I'm a first time mom-to-be and I would LOVE to know what everyone's favorite brands are when it comes to a few baby items.

Diapers
Wipes
Diaper rash creme
Bath wash/shampoo
Lotion
Powder

If there is anything I forgot, please feel free to add it!

My parents actually own a second hand store for babies/children so I have gotten quite a few things there! I got my swing, pack & play, bassinet, humidifier and some clothes there. Definitely is great to have especially on those items that you'll really only use for a few months.

Diapers started with pampers, then switched to huggies....diapers all depend on your baby... as i find pampers now leak, and huggies dont...i have a girl... but i think its all in the body shape for preference

Wipes... i only use huggies, they are thicker than pampers

Diaper rash creme... whatever-butt paste, arbonne, penaten(daily CLEAR protection cream, not the white paste in the tin) oh and good old vaseline works great too and is the only thing reccomended when they are new borns... so youll need it for sure

Bath wash/shampoo I do admit that Johnson baby shampoo smells good, BUT unless you get the natural more expensive kind the regular washes have carcinogens... and the company is completely aware of this and have taken the product off the shelves in some other countries but not Canada and the States (so that makes me bitter) i really like Chartreuse natural products, arbonne, and live clean products smell yummy

Lotion- i cant say i use lotion on her regularly... she doesnt need it... but if she does i have arbonne lotion... but really never use it...

Powder- i dont use

Breast pump- love my manual Avent pump

Bottles- Platex drop ins...and you can get freezer rings too freeze breast milk in the drop ins... very handy

Suckies- i only use avent kind, the ones that are reversable so it doesnt matter which way it goes in their mouth and you can get the glow in the dark which is nice too... if you plan on using suckies then absolutely get a few pacifier clips so they dont fall on the floor, baby can find it on own at night(age depending) and dont loose them as easy! lol cause suckies disappear like matching socks?? i dono where they go?

Dont cheap out on the breast pads, the better brand name is usually worth the price...

I love graco products

I love my angel care baby monitor... its worth the money...my opinion :)

NORWEX baby clothes!! i love them, they are so soft! thick and durable! i cant say anything bad about them! i also got the hooded towel and its nice but any towel will do...

I also couldnt live with out my microwave sterilzer... its Avent but any brand would do... my sister got it at a baby garage sale for $10, and it came with a bunch of bottles...and i still use the platex drop ins...

Diaper pail.... i had one with all the bells and wistles and it sucked!!! i ended up getting a second hand diaper genie for 10 bucks and it works great! does what its supposed to, easy to change bags... but you have to make sure you always have the replacement bag ring thing on hand so you dont run out....

crib- i got a stork craft off the website in the clearance ones, its a 3 in one, delivered to my house, all together it costs 199.00 total...

Anything you can get second hand or even borrow, i would reccomend! i wished i didnt buy so much just becasue there is no guarantee your baby will like or use stuff, and between kids you need to store all this stuff somewhere!! it takes up so much room! lol

Also one more piece of advice...if you got a lot of diapers and wipes for your baby shower and have a lot of newborn or of any size your baby might grow out of before you get to use them...Wal-mart will take them back...I think Target will too.

With my baby shower DH also had a diaper party where people brought diapers and wipes...I couldn't take them all home because we lived out of state, so we took them all to wal-mart and got a gift card...I would use it when I needed it. I ended up with about $300 on the card and would use it only for diapers and wipes when needed.  This would also help if you don't have much storage. With our oldest we lived in an apartment and I put all the gift diapers int he closet and found I had missed some sizes because they were in the back and when I found them she had outgrown them...we had bought some in that size :-(

I have little girls and found Pampers swaddlers until size 2 then you have to switch...they don't go past size two.  We like Pampers cruisers best...better than pampers baby dry they leaked on us.  I've heard huggies are good for boys though...not sure don't have experience with that lol.  I tried the target brand for a while because the price is good but found that some of the diapers would fall apart and they don't breath as well as the pampers so baby will smell very strongly of urine.  When you change them and they don't seem as soft and comfy.

wipes, I like pampers unscented but found target brand are the same...they are cheaper and come in bulk, huggies wipes for me seem to harsh. But with pampers and target brand the last few wipes are VERY wet and you might have to wring them sometimes....huggies don't do this.  Still prefer the softness of the pampers/target brand better.

diaper rash, desitin original (not creamy) the creamy seems to come off in the diaper and doesn't help.  Or A&D, I like both...if the rash is bad I go for the desitin if it's light I use the A&D, because if the desitin gets on anything is can stain.

shampoo and lotion, aveeno  we used johnsons for our oldest but I like aveeno a lot better.  You can get the scented lavender also or just the regular unscented is good too.

bottles, whether you breastfeed or not playtex drop-ins all the way.  I breastfeed for 8 months with my first and 10 with my second and used the drop-ins from time to time while breastfeeding then of course full time once weaned...they cost more in the long run, but so worth it!  Also if you do use a pacifier then soothies brand is the same shape as the playtex.

I see you got your breast pump already....if you plan on using it a lot then you might want to look into a medela....I had a $80 playtex pump and it didn't last.  I didn't pump all that often either.

powder, don't use it, except when we go to the beach...it's GREAT for getting sand off...we use johnson's.

Also, not sure if you or hubby are tall or not. But I have found that carters onsies, or carter's off brands are better.  My babies are long and skinny and gerber or most of the store brands and for shorter fatter babies :-)  Even if you have a long fat baby carters will work better :-)

Huggies diapers - never had a problem with leaks, can't STAND scented diapers, lol.

Any wipes - but the scented ones irritate me because then it just smells like whatever-scented poop instead of helping, IMO.

Diaper cream: Balmex. my DD did better with Desitin or Aveeno, but my son responds better to Balmex.

Wash and Shampoo - whatever, usually Aveeno.

Lotion - Aveeno

Baby powder - like everyone else I rarely use it, but when I do I use the Johnson Corn Starch.

So far it seems most of you ladies don't use powder. And most use Pampers diapers/wipes and Johnson's wash and lotion. I've gotten so many different kinds from the baby shower, and I'm sure I'll find what brand works best for me, but it's great to hear first hand from moms who are experienced about what they prefer! Thanks!

I actually got Playtex drop-ins! I got a Playtex breast pump and it works with the drop-ins bottle system that I got. I thought it was a great way to get the air out, so it makes me happy to hear that being reinforced!

Sorry hit enter before I was done

We used to use Butt paste which works well but, my best friend babysat once and he had a rash when I dropped him off and when I picked him up the next day it was gone so then when I switched.

If you can't or do not want to breastfeed, I swear by Playtex drop-ins. I love the fact that you can reduce as much air as possible.

Diapers: pampers, I was using huggies for years but realised they fill up far too quickly and start to leak..

Wipes: huggies the shea butter or alo vera ones smell so nice and fresh but might be too cold for new borns, id just use cotton and warm water for a new born.

Diaper rash cream: suda cream it comes in a grey tub.

And bath shampoo body wash: baby Johnson's!

Powder: anything really.

Sorry about any spelling errors. Also I'm from the UK but think we have the same stuff.

I pretty much use store brands on everything now unless my kid has a reaction to it.  I stay away from baby powder because it's an aspiration hazard and can actually cause diaper rash if used incorrectly.
