Miscarriage for a 26 years old woman

Dear Doctor,

My wife is 26 years old. She was 11 weeks pregnant. However, our physician advised for an ultrasound-pelvis on her 11th week and it was found that there was no physical and heart activity of the fetus. the report stated that the approx. gestational age as 6 weeks+/- 5 days. It is pertinenet to mention here that during her 7th week she had mild cramps in her lower abdomen and our Doctor suggested Microgest 200 to be taken through her passage.

Eventually she is now evacuated. My questions are:-

1) Why this happened. I mean what could be the probable reasons? (Please note that she was aneamic)
2) What precautions should she follow now after the evacuation and till what time?
3) Will there be any problems in her next conceiving? (She is RH +ve)
4) After what time should we try for next conceiving?

I would be grateful to you for your replies.

Best regards,
Partha Roy

I'm sorry for your loss, first of all.

1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, unfortunately.  There could be several reasons why it happened, or there could be no reason - chromosomal abnormalities, infection.....usually it's natures way of ending an unhealthy pregnancy, so it's nothing that could have been prevented.

I had a D&C after a missed M/C (my body did not expell the tissue and essentially thought that it was still pregnant), so the D&C was to clean out my uterus.  Anyway, I was told to wait 1 week before resuming sexual intercourse and 3 months before trying to conceive again.  Many women are told to wait only 1 month before trying again.

There should not be problems with conception if there were none the 1st time and her uterus is "clean" .  In order to be sure, she can have lab work done to confirm that her hormones have gone back to zero.
