It would certainly be appropriate for you to discuss that with your OB/gyn. The cause was probably aneuploidy. That is an abnormal number of chromosomes--too many or too few. One type of aneuploidy is Down's syndrome, which is an extra chromosome 21. In women over 40 the rate of miscarriage is as high as 50%, simply because your eggs are 45 years old, and have had some wear and tear. ( You are probably aware that women are born with all of their eggs in their ovaries).
Generally, if my patient has an uncomplicated spontaneous miscarriage without any need for surgery, I tell her she can try again right away. If she has to have a d&c, I will often advise her to wait 3 months. In your case, I would NOT recommend that you wait--your biological clock is not on your side here!

Thanks for your comments. I have not had my cycle yet but have started having unprotected sex. Can I get pregnant, and is this safe?
