Withdrawal During Pregnancy

I have been on Vicodin for years due to severe Rheumotoid Arthritis ( I havehad RA sicne the age of 2)  I am now 18 weeks prenant. Thw two questions I have are #1. What are the effects on the baby during and?pr after pregnancy? And #2. What would be the effects of withdrawal on the baby being this far along in the pregnancy? Actually, one more question, being this far along would it be more dangerous to the baby to go through withdrawal than it would be to stay on the Vicodin?

Make sure that your OB/GYN or Nurse MidWife is aware that you are on Vicodin.
I had to take Vicodin with my last pregnancy due to RA, too.
My OB/GYN knew about it and happily there were no effects on my son who is turning 9 in April.
Discuss this with your healthcare provider as the stress of you going through withdrawl-even the mild withdrawls caused by Vicodin-could be worse for your baby than the risk of you keeping on taking Vicodin.
During my first pregnancy-I had remission from all my RA symptoms, it was the best I ever felt, unfortunately when I got pregnant again-7 years later-the RA stayed with a vengenance! The stress of Chronic Untreated Pain on the baby could also be bad!
Your Doctor is the best one to get advice on this particular issue from!!
Good Luck and Congrats on the Bundle of Joy!!

Because Vicodin is a prescribed medication and you are most likely seeing a doctor for your prenatal care I would assume your doctor would know the risks and how to help you wean off the Vicodin.

If your doctor is not aware of this situation you need to make them aware. They will be the ones to help you with withdrawal.
