Hi!
I counsel my patients depending upon their ages.  If over 30, I start a fertility work up after 6 months without success.  If under 30, chances are excellent that something will happen if they wait for up to one year.  85% of normal healthy couples will conceive within one year.

The first few tests I do for a fertility work up include:
ovulation predictors and a semen analysis
if those look good, I might consider a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) next to check the fallopian tubes.

Most couples just need more time.
Good luck!
