back pain

I really don't want to go to the hospital just for them to tell me its the baby sitting on my sciatic nerve, but I'm seriously about to cry. Does anyone know of any home remedies? And if I do go to the hospital and it is sciatica, what treatment will they give me? I'm against taking medications while I'm pregnant, I won't even take a Tylenol. Should I get someone to massage it? In serious pain here :(

Prior injury that has not healed could definitely lead to more back pain in pregnancy. With the relaxin hormones causing your pelvis to expand for baby it just irritates the injury. I would also suggest looking into physical therapy to see if that helps.

I had a lot of back problems when I played volleyball and basketball. I wonder if a previous back injury could lead to a higher chance of sciatica in pregnancy? That would be interesting to research. My friend who is 37 weeks had to get one of those belly support things for her sciatic pain.

God that sounds so painful I hope it doesnt happen to me >_< I agree with Shirano's ideas especially about the heat and massaging. Taking a hot bath may help too? Ive never dealt with sciatic nerve pain before, but my Dad does almost daily. He also wears back braces too - not sure if thats an option or not if the pain is after the pregnancy.

No problem. I used to have super bad sciatica when I did cheer leading. It ***** the pain shoots up and down you leg, it hurts to do anything. Now, since my pregnancy I have SI joint pain which s u c k s as well. It hurts so bad to walk some times. But it will get better and carrying my child is worth the pain.

Thank you. My back hasn't hurt this bad since my bulging disk. It's so frustrating.

Massage helps, light stretching ( pull your knee to you chest hold, then bring the knee to the side while still up toward your chest, bring it across tummy) ice, heat, also your hips or pelvis could be out of alignment so you may need an adjustment. There are support bands you can wear to help hold you pelvis in place as well.
