bleeding gums

omg...this is SO annoying!! ever since i got pregnant brushing my teeth and flossing has made my gums bleed like no other and i read that it was a symptom of pregnancy so i was like eh whatever. but now during the second trimester they just start bleeding randomly....even when im not brushing or flossing! i was constantly in and out of the bathroom on thanksgiving becuz DF was giving me a heads up when they were bleeding...i didnt even want to smile cuz my teeth were all red from the blood! so is this actually a common thing or should i see a dentist....im assuming its from the increased blood flow during the second trimester so that if i even poke them with anything ..like food or silverware that they are already swelled with blood so they just spring leaks at the slightest poke? ugh any insight would be fantastic because its gross and somewhat embarassing....this never happened pre preg.

When my mom was pregnant with me but didnt know yet, she was at the dentist and he asked if she was pregnant by her tender looking gums. She said no (not knowing she was) and found out a bit later that she was!

Mine do that, too. I'll be talking and DH will have to tell me they're bleeding. It's awful. And I wake up in the morning with blood on my teeth, usually. And because I have Medicaid, I'm really limited on what I can do. Not many dentists take Medicaid.

I'm totally experiencing the same thing - it's gotten worse now that I'm in my 3rd trimester.  I had it when I was pregnant the last time, too, so I'm not concerned about it, it's more of a nuisance than anything else.  I had just seen the dentist in the spring before I got pregnant and have great dental hygiene, so I'm sure it's unrelated to anything else.

If you had an infection, you'd know it (pain, extreme bleeding, bad breath, etc). I'm 23w and mine bleed sometimes during the day too (but on very seldom occasions). Just keep cleaning your teeth twice a day and flossing and you'll be fine

I am having the same trouble too.  Brushing teeth is by bigest problem since I got pregnant as it triggers my morning sicknes any time of the day. So I try to floss without fail fail, but bleeding has made me really scared. I have booked a dentists appointment and will update you if I find any solutions.

It's fairly normal during pregnancy but you should definitely see a dentist just to rule any sort of gum infection or problem out....there was some recent medical journal that said that for some reason bacteria in the gums passes almost directly through the placenta and can cause certain problems and while I think your blood volume is just high and you're just "springing leaks" like you said (LOL!) you should definitely get it checked out to be on the safe side. when in doubt...check it out! :)
