just to be clear 2000-4000 would be what mom would need to take....
all breastfed babies are reccomended to have supplimented vit D... along with that moms are reccomended to continue to take their prenatal vitamins and eat a healthy well balanced diet... yes it shows that lots of moms are defficient in vit D... there have been some studies done in how much vitamin d is needed to give your baby enough through the milk and what i have found its about 2000-4000 iu... so that is why its just reccomended that you give it to baby directly so thar way its done...
With my son I started producing at around 30 weeks but because he was born with an underbite and the shape of my boobs he was unable to latch. I am planning on trying again this time around. But don't be disappointed if it's not as easy as you are assuming it is. Good luck!
Also I wouldn't make that assumption. I started producing colostrum early on with my son and had a horrible time trying to breastfeed him. My milk never came in after 6 weeks of constant nursing and pumping and it was just awful. And as long as mom has a diet with plenty of calories and nutrients you shouldn't need to worry about extra vitamins. If your prenatals don't cause you issues you can continue those or even take flintstones. I had to take those when nursing because my prenatals, no matter which ones I took, made me throw up even when I wasn't pregnant.
Thank you! My prenatals have 400 iu of vitamin D, if i take those while i breastfeed is it enough?
Breast milk lacks vitamin D because the mother lacks vitamin D. If you take vitamin D supplements, (or get sufficient vitamin D on your own) it will be expressed in your milk.
U can get it in liquid form for babies at walgreens cvs walmart. Good luck
