breastfeeding

For the mommies who have prepared for nursing their baby. What items have u bought to make breast feeding easier? With my daughter I was not prepared at all and I have 8 weeks before my due date and I really want to succeed this time. Any advice to me prepare would be much appreciated.

I'm nursing too, yes! And I'm more nervous about telling my son that I'm feeding her through my breast, because he knows what a nipple is (after CONSTANTLY asking me what his was, haha!) and I don't want him to be confused about her feeding from my nipple, but I'm sure he'll be okay after a while seeing it, but I plan to pump once in a while, too. Probably once in a while for outings, and once in a while for night time. Maybe pump a couple ounces a day and let her feed him once a day? It will boost your milk supply, too!

Thank you. Makes me feel better especially your last statement. Are you going to be nursing as well? I'm at a loss about that. I really want to but then I think it would be super cute to watch big sister feed her little brother. What other things would be good that I could have her help with. I want her to feel she can help and not always be told no! She is mommas big helper. :)

I'm going on my 2nd and feeling the same way! I'm going to have my son help as much as possible with my little girl, and try to remember his whole life is changing too, I plan on having my husband take our daughter for an hour or so each night and just do one on one time with my son so he doesn't feel left out at all, I'm one of 3 and don't remember feeling left out, I think it's just us as mothers are harder on ourselves than we should be, our kids will adapt and so will we! :)

Ok wow lots of information. I'm starting to feel a little more comfortable about breast feeding. But I do have another question for you ladies who have other children. I'm just a little worried how my daughter she will be 19 months when baby is born. She is definitely a mommas girl and I was just curious how you have shown her the baby needs to be fed and more attention. I mean I don't want her to feel like the new baby is taking her mommy away. Somebody told me that she will feel that way. I don't want that I want to give her as much attention as I can too. I want to be able to show them both love like they need. I want to be a great mom for my babies.

Boppy pillow and a lot of determination. No breast shied unless you really need it or a LC suggested it since baby can grow to depend on it. No plastic nipples of any kind during the first coupon of weeks, it might create nipples confusion. Breast cream, breast pad to catch the leak and very loose top. You will be nursing every two hours and won't have time for much other thing anyway, so just you, your baby and your breasts :)
No need to pump at the beginning but ask your hospital if they give out free manual pump. You can buy the special strong bag or just use small freezer zip lock bag. Good for at least 6 months in the freezer. Once you get the hands of breast feeding, like in a month or so them you start pumping if you want to for emergency use.
I would suggest taking a breast feeding class, your hospital should have it. A bad latch can be very painful and it will take a couple of weeks for both you and the baby to figure it out but hang in there. It's so worth it :)

yes you should wait a couple weeks to pump. Let your milk supply regulate on it's own in the early weeks. Not to mention it takes about two weeks to get used to the whole breast feeding thing and schedule of the baby.

Definitely will be invessting in boppy pillow. Seems like that's a favorite by everyone. If I'm wearing a 38 C bra now what size of bra should I buy for nursing. Im hoping to be a little more prepared this time.

They are making these things called milkeez that you wear while your out they hold up to 2oz of milk because if you have alot if milk breast pads don't always work. Also invest in a wash rag i know it sounds funny but fold it over and use that as a pad,, it soaks up more. I hope this helps:)

The only things that I actually needed were the boppy (my kids still love their boppys...and theyre 4 and 6, they sleep with them=) and also a good quality sports bra in a larger size. I never really used the pump, but many of my friends used theirs all the time.

Thank you definitely thought about the boppy pillow. Never even heard of any of these items when I had my daughter. I was so unprepared.

What helped me breastfeed was I went in with the mind set if I can't do this my baby will starve. I tried pumping for nursing breaks but it caused more trouble with over production and I ended up with lop sided boobs and too much foremilk. I fully suggest if you can wait as long as possible to use a pump until you have a real good handel on latching. Remember the more the baby ***** the better chance you have. Also if your hospital or dr had a lactation consultant use them. If they don't find a le lecha league near you.

I agree with the other two, boppy pillow, nursing shields, nursing pads, nipple cream (really helps in the beginning when they're sore), I'm buying storage bags, in case I pump for when we have outings at all, I can freeze it! I can't wait to breastfeed this time, I ended really early with my son because my milk dried up, so I can't wait!

Nursing Shields are great for newborns. Sometimes their little mouths are too small to latch on. My hospital have me mine. I didn't even know about them until they gave me one. But that's all i use. My shield and pillows to prop my arm up. Hope this helps:)
