did u research for in the United states? that's where I live in Kentucky, and I tried doing a bit of research but couldn't really understand much of it. Im hoping I will just try to be a great worker work very hard till the very end of my pregnancy and hopefully get well enough with management to accept me back after I have the baby. I'm so worried as I don't know how I'll support the baby if not I don't really have family support and the father isn't around so I'm stressed but all I cab do is pray and hope for the best. thank u for researching lol btw it's 2 am here, still awake and have work at seven, just can't sleep I've been on a bad sleep schedule since not working =( lol
so even though I haven't worked thete for a year I should still be able to get six week leave? I live in ky btw and not sure the laws on that, I hope so though.and mrsconnelly>> no not at all I didn't take it negatively lol I know u were just asking, no offense taken here =) & thanku
This post really got me interested and i got researching! (6am and cannot sleep) and boy was i wrong! Alas it was australian and me nor you are well i dont think you are buttt the company dont really have a leg to stand on
because you get so many rights! Do you research before they say you dont get maternity because if it isnt in your contract then why not...? :)
They have to allow you to have a 6 week leave. You can also get unemployeement during this time. Depending on the company they may fill your position but most companies won't do that because the risk of being sued for letting go of someone who had to take a maternity leave. I started working at Nordstrom when I was 12 weeks with mg first.
By law they are required to give you a 6 week maternity leave reguarless how long youve been working there. But they aren't required to pay you unless youve been working there for a year
Good Luck to you too :) :)
**as in because youve just started** was worried that comment wasnt clear and would be taken negative! :)
thanks for advice that's scary to not know if I'll be able to provide after birth but all I can do is save up as much as I can for now. and no they can't dismiss me for that, it's illegal for them to even ask if your pregnant here in ky & they can't discriminate against u because of pregnancy after hiring. thank u ladies wish me luck and God bless u and your little ones<3
Well I'm a cashier at Popeyes and I'm only 6 weeks pregnant and I haven't told my bosses yet and I been there for only 7 months. I drink alot of water.
Maybe you could get unpaid leave and be able to come back. Im not 100% sure on that,Ive never heard of anybody getting that.
Cant they dismiss you for holding back important information? Because they would have to perform a risk assesment so you wouldnt strain yourself so when you tell them your due date it would have been obvious you would have known you would have been pregnant at 19 weeks... im not sure how it works in your country though so i could be wrong! Good on you though girl! I hope it works out :) x
Your feet are gonna hurt .
Its not firing you, if you are giving birth. They just don't offer maternity leave benefits for employees when they haven't worked their a certain amount of time. So you'll have to leave regardless, its like a mutual thing, you may be rehirable, talk to your manager about it.
oh wow so I most likely will get fired for giving birth or w.e? see I knew I wouldn't get paid while on leave or anything but I didn't think they could fire u for having a child..that would really suck, =/
You should tell them after you get situated. You dont get maternity leave unless you've worked there for a year, so i dont think you'll get your job back unless they are really really nice. I would just appreciate the money while you can, try to save a little here and there.
they can't fire you for pregnancy
I worked drive-thru/cash register until i was 36 weeks. Its exhausting, get some squishy Dr. Scholl pads for your shoes, drink lots of water and kick your feet up when you get home. When you get really far along, like in your 30+ wks, ask to use a stool at your register if standing starts to kill you.
thank u ladies I really appreciate it I'm very excited as I was so stressed thinking I wouldn't find work while pregnant. I'm 19 weeks and my manager dies not know of my pregnancy yet so how and when should I go about telling him?? & will I still have my job when I come back from giving birth?
**not stay standing in one place the whole time
I am at a retail store I'm 24 weeks right now and for me it hasn't really been a hassle up to now I'm on my feet all the time and I just make sure I wear comfortable shoes try to move around and not stay standing the whole time ..I've found that to get me tired the quickest.. But as long as you're having a normal healthy pregnancy there shouldn't be any problems besides the fatigue you might get later on
I was a cashier up until about two weeks ago, (I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow) it was fun, my lower back would get tired and ache and my feet would hurt after the day was over but its easier than working other jobs I've had. My only tip is stay friendly. I can't remember how many times I wanted to jump over the counter because someones tone didn't sit right with my hormones. But you can't, just deal with it. Lol snacks help, eat something every break you get, and drink water and juice. (Juice helped me keep my energy going)
I work as a cashier for family dollar its pretty good (:
Since it was my first job the first two weeks were so hard on my body. My whole back and feet were sore to the point where i just wanted to lay down and cry. :( but it gets alot easier. Good luck (:
