Curious On Dates... Any Advice?

Hello,
Im just curious on my possible dates. Today I took a preg. test and it was positive. My last period was on 12/28/09 Typically I go from month to month on the same day. On 1/09/10 we had unprotected sex and he stayed in. I think on 1/12/10 My opk was positive. On the 1/13/10 we used a condom but used  a little of his lube on the clitoral area. He didnt use a lot but enough. Im just not sure what day could have resulted in a pregnancy. Im thinking on the 9th since the sperm would be there waiting for an egg...right? What are your thoughts??? Thanks so much for everyones time and input :)

You would count the 9th as the first day the sperm were in your vagina. It's impossible to know exactly when you conceived. A positive OPK is an indicator that you will be ovulating in the next 24-48 hours, it does not mean you ovulate that day. Once you ovulated it takes 6-12 days for the egg to implant in your uterus. So if you had sex on the 9th and the sperm survived 5 days and you ovulated the 5th day, if it took 12 days for the egg to implant it would have been 19 days after you had sex. It's kind of confusing, and complicated, but I'd assume that the sperm from the 9th are the ones that made it to your egg, although like I said no birth control is 100% effective so it could have been either day really. If you're asking because you slept with two different men and want to know who the father is then the only way to really tell is by a DNA test. I'm not sure why you're asking but if that is the case there is no way to tell.

I was also wondering, Since we we together on the 1/9 unprotected. And sperm can live for up to 5 days in the female tract, would I count the 9th as day 1 for the semen or would I count 1/10 as the 1st day??

I would deffo say it was from the 9th. If you want an accurate date and u know the date of your ovulation count 38 weeks from this date. The doctor goes from the first day of ur last period and generally assumes that u ovulate 2 weeks after this, this is where the 40 weeks come from but counting this way means you are pregnant for 2 weeks before anything happens! Confusing i know.
I would say it was the 9th January so 38 weeks after that would be 2nd October! Good luck!

So are you (as well as I am) leaning more for the 9th act as the act the resulted in the pregnancy? As far as the condom goes, he pulled out right before he went.

Sperm can live inside your body up to 5 days. If you had unprotected sex on Jan 9 the sperm could have survived long enough to fertilize the egg. If the condom did not break, it is unlikely but still possible sperm could have gotten into your vagina using the condom, as no form of birth control is 100%. But in pregnancy (sorry if you already know this) the doctors usually go by the first day of your last period and count that as the first day you are pregnant, although you don't get pregnant until a couple weeks later. Your first ultrasound should give you a more accurate gestational age. Hope I helped.
