cold cuts in pregnancy

I know that in pregnancy you are instructed to avoid cold cuts because of the risk of listeria.  I did read in one of my books that you could warm up the cold cuts to decrease this problem.  I was wondering if you could have Quizno's or Subway if they heat up your sandwich.  I don't have my appt with my doctor for my first appt until next week, and I was just wondering.

I agree with all the other girls! Cold cuts were never an issue until this pregnancy. I haven't really worried about it too much though. I'm still eating my subway and quiznos! Ha! Ha! If you feel comfortable heating up your meat then I would go for it but I don't think you really have too much to stress yourself over! Congrats!

thanks for the responses, guys!  I honestly didn't even think about it until my sister told me while we were home for Christmas, and we had cold cuts for dinner.  I've been trying to be good, but it's hard to go out and not have cold cuts when my DH is eating a huge cold cut sub in front of me!

I go to both quiznos and subway and have the chicken breast subs, at quiznos its cut up but its still chicken breast. I do however get the odd craving for a pizza sub from subway and i just get it toasted like you said. I think if you are comfortable with it then its up to you! the one thing that does bother me though is when my mother said well if you are willing to put your baby at risk for a pizza sub that is up to you. be prepared for some of that along the way.......I think as pregnant women we can do our best but sometimes its better to eat a cold cut sub then to not eat at all.

I craved deli sandwiches when I was pregnant and ate them all the time, even though I knew of the risk. It's a very, very low risk. I think having your sandwiches heated up is a fantastic idea, though, and will cut the risk even lower.

I never heard about this during my first pregnancy and I keep forgetting in this one. I eat club sandwiches a lot at work and I just had subway yesterday. I can't believe that I keep forgetting but I never heard about it before until my cousin said something to me a couple months ago.

Yeah, I'd say if you heat it up you'll be OK.  Toasting at a restaurant might not get it to "steaming" like they suggest but it's better than nothing!  :)

to tell u the truth i ate cold cuts with my first pregnancy and with this second one.... The risk of listeria is so low doctors dont worry about it too much. However it is true that if u heat the meat up that it is safe for u to eat without the fear of listeria.
