Higher HCG levels can be due to wrong dates, or multiple pregnancies, or HCG secreting tumors etc. Consider being in regular follow-up with your gynecologist. Get repeat test done in 1-2 weeks time along with ultrasound scan to look for the cause. Few liver diseases, use of medications that could resemble the hormone molecule, use of infertility drugs, liver disease, liver cancers, choriocarcinoma, germ cell tumors, IgA deficiencies, gestational trophoblastic disease or neoplasm, presence of heterophile antibodies, can also cause rise in HCG levels. Discuss about these possibilities with your treating gynecologist and proceed further with management as suggested.
