Hi!
If the sac is truly irregular, there is a chance that the pregnancy will miscarry. Sometimes things look "funny" on ultrasound though when one is not accustomed to looking at ultrasound images.  On the repeat scan, they should be able to see a fetal pole and possibly a heart beat.  Another option is to do quantitative hcg tests and compare the first level to a level done 48 hours later--if the level is approximately doubling, the pregnancy is probably developing normally.  I often offer this option to my patients, because the information is easier and faster to get.  They usually still have to get the repeat ultrasound though, regardless.
Hope this helps!

I am a sonographer at an OB/GYN office and see that a lot. At six weeks there should be a heartbeat on the us so your next us will be the determining factor on whether the pregnancy is viable. Dont wory about it yet.

I work for an OB MD. And have seen an abnormal sac develop into a normal pregnancy. Really, there is nothing to do if there is no spotting. Continue prenatal vitamins and good care for yourself as any other pregnant pt would. You should expect to see a heartbeat by 7weeks. Usually during the 6th week sometime. Also realize you last menstrual may not match how far along u believe u are. So don't be alarmed if your scan is done at 6 wks plus. Wait until 7.
